DICE has launched the official site for its Frostbite game engine, which powers Battlefield 4, Dragon Age 3, and other EA titles.
"One of our most exciting current projects is called Frostbite Go, a mobile division empowering EA game developers with Frostbite’s proven excellent workflows and features to bring true Frostbite experiences to all major mobile platforms." That's good news for the mobile market
Hopefully this means we will see more high end mobile games.
So frostbite works on a mobile phone, but not WiiU? Something fishy going on there. :P
Wonder if they will realease the frostbite engine for download like crytek with cryengine
I think not, Frostbite was one of the reasons EA got StarWars. It's EAs competitive edge! And I have a strong suspicion we have seen nothing yet... "Ice + moving light source x Frostbite 3 = GORGEOUS! #sprintreviewday" https://twitter.com/BioEvil... "It is not often a room full of Devs geek out over vegetation, but Frostbite 3 engine is amazing. #sprintreviewday" https://twitter.com/BioEvil...
EA should license the engine, but they are not going to do so. Its the EA internal studios engine. Just like Konami having the FOX engine. Square Enix having the Luminous engine. Zenimax having the id tech 5 engine and so on. Most major development/publisher circles have their own engines now. So lots of minor studios will be taking a crack at Unreal 4, CryEngine 3.x, and so on.
