Dust 514 Review in Progress

IGN - It's a good thing I like numbers, because Dust 514 has thrown an awful lot of them at me with little regard to whether I was ready or not. See, I'm the guy who's disappointed when a new RPG doesn't have enough stats to interpret, or when its skill tree looks more Charlie Brown Christmas special than Rockefeller Plaza. But even number nerds like me have limits, and while I'm not ready to say that Dust 514 exceeds mine quite yet, it certainly throws a whole lot more at new players than just about any FPS I can think of.

Throwing a lot at me stright at the start of a game makes me nervous lol x)

Abash3999d ago

Haha, well MAG was the only game that really made me take in for a few moments the huge scale of the game. It was pretty amazing seeing all the soldiers parachuting into pretty intense gun fights that were going on, it didnt make me nervous but it was overwhelming in how impressive it was

MetalProxy3999d ago

Domination in MAG was amazing. So much going on at once. The game made it hard to even care about CoD. The more people to blast at the better imo.

MysticStrummer3999d ago

Yeah MAG is unmatched on consoles if what you want is the feel of a huge battle. Even the smallest matches dwarf every other console shooter. Zipper really messed up a great thing.

Pintheshadows3999d ago

I quite liked the numbers and stats in the beta if i'm honest. I'm very aware it is not for everyone though.

There is a very VERY steep learning curve with this game cause of the menus & the sheer scope of the game. It's not something you can pick up & play right away like something like COD or Halo.

The game will require your time & patience. If you are willing to take that time to learn the game it can be extremely rewarding. I've been in the beta for 4 months now. At first i was intimidated but everyday i took some time in the game & i came to understand what the game has to offer.

First time you call for an orbital strike was really cool. The EVE players are cool people & having the chance to be the difference in their universe is something players can grow to appreciate.

The game will evolve just like EVE has. Imagine having the opportunity to like board a starship & trying to take it over for your faction. CCP can make something like that happen in the future.

Dust 514 is not for everyone. It is like an RPG for shooters & if like i said are willing to spend time with it you may find that it is just for you.

Personal score from the beta - 7.5-8 - 10

- room for improvement but worth the time i spent.

Sadly, the more complex a shooter is the less likely it is to succeed.

this should be interesting.

Findingcrybabies3004d ago (Edited 3004d ago )

wow. that's messed up. I don't play the game, but shutting it down and then a month after that showing your replacement game after you told the community screw you. LOL. Remind me to never support or play a CCP game. There are games that came out many years before this one and the devs keep the servers up for people.

samden3004d ago

It's on an old console and was nearly dead in the water when it launched. Not much of a community left to anger. Quite frankly, it sucked, and I'm excited to see what the next one will bring.

Tony-Red-Grave3004d ago

From launch to death Dust was only really ever a poor mans M.A.G. God I miss M.A.G and Valor.

Pongwater3003d ago

Dust 514 was free so I don't see your point, but I do find your name ironic.

@Tony - Yeah I still wish for MAG2, or even a PS4 remaster of MAG.

evergrace3004d ago

One of the worst shooter games on ps3.

noxeven3003d ago

I remember them saying it was supposed to contribute to eve and everyone was up in arms and that never happened and it just fell to the way side

Pongwater3003d ago

I'm not sure enough people ever played DUST 514 to say "everyone was up in arms", but there were in fact cross play battles between EVE and DUST.

It was a cool concept with some sizable flaws, but I'd be interested in a sequel that addressed some of those flaws. I thought I heard there was a PS4 version coming, but maybe that's my imagination.

tanukisuit3003d ago

It was definitely ambitious given the tech involved and how late into last gen we were. They tried though and cross gameplay is getting more relevant, so I think not all was lost...

Player-created DUST514 Trailer Calls For EVE:Phoenix

DUST514 players create EVE:Phoenix trailers as part of their #PortDUST514 campaign.

Since the announcement of the DUST514 sequel EVE:Legion by CCP Games at FanFest 2014, there has been an almost eerie silence about the project from the game’s creators. Domains and trademarks were registered, and later left expired, for the EVE:Legion brand, and the player base was left watching as no actual news or progress updates were given by CCP, even at the various player-gatherings or CCP’s own FanFest 2015.

The players of DUST514, both past and current, have rallied under a banner, #PortDUST514, led by Ripley Riley, and are using this hashtag on social media to highlight that there is still a desire for a sequel or a port of the game to a more recent platform than the Playstation 3.
Most recently, this has resulted in the players creating propaganda posters and “memes”, and even voiced trailers, for what they themselves have named EVE:Phoenix.

The player Pokey Dravon, with the help of several other players, created this trailer for the campaign.
