Metro: Last Light Review | Quarter to Three

Tom Chick writes, "It’s a fascinating juxtaposition to Crysis 3, another exercise in high-end technology. If you just look at their incidental components, these games are similar. If an alien were to visit Earth to learn about our culture, and if it had no conception of videogames or tone or narrative, you could sit it down to play these games and it would be equally captivated by the gunplay and the graphics. But if you were to take someone who’s played his share of shooters, someone who cares about the story between and around the shooting, someone who can appreciate games that offer new takes on familiar experiences, Crysis will feel like a soulless blockbuster to the auteur’s art film of Metro: Last Light."

Seriously this is probably the best game graphically I’ve ever seen. I was watching my younger brother play on his beast of a PC and I really wanted to play lol. I only have a PS3 and 360. So I checked a bit online to see what it looked like on console and it didn’t look too bad. The only site that really gave it shit was IGN (witch is no surprise), many other website didn’t mention any major problem’s with the console versions.

I had a discount because of PlayStation plus so I decided to try it out and boy, I don’t regret it at all. I’m on the third level and the graphics are surprisingly good. Not as good as PC of course, but its not a bad port at all. If you’re not sure don’t worry its good on console, but if you’re going to buy it on PC make sure you have a good card. My brother lagged a bit with Advanced Physx turned on and he has a gtx680. When he turned if off and left everything else on very high the game played perfectly.

Phenomenal game.
Really is.
One of the best I have played in a long, long while. Runs fantastically on max settings (without ssao, which isn't needed anyway. almost no jaggies to be found without) - almost never dipping under 60 under any circumstances - with my 680, and the game is probably the most graphically impressive I have seen yet.
Great story, fun gameplay, fantastic level design and a meticulously designed world bested by none that I can think of.
This thing really surpassed expectations for me. The only real issue I have is that stealth is far too overpowered, allowing you to easily best what would otherwise be rather good ai from your human enemies. That said, mutants are destructive little bastards under most circumstances.

Have to agree with everything you said.

Stealth really is OP and if you play on normal (I did it as was afraid would be as difficult/aggrivating as the first at times--which it hasn't been yet) the AI will walk right by corpses as long as they are in shadows :( You can literally be right next to them and as long as you're in the shadows you will perfectly fine--bit depressing but bet my next playthrough on Ranger will make things more interesting at least.

Also as you said the jaggies are surprising rare and the game looks and play silky smooth. They did a great job this time around on both fronts.

So many fine touches that make Last Light phenomenal (even when crawling through vents it looks and sounds great which is a rarity and that's just a minor example). So many things about this game are great and I doubt I'm even halfway through so I know it will only get better ;)
