'Groundbreaking New IP' Coming from Take-Two Games

GR said, "We may all love a good sequel, but there’s just something special about a new intellectual property. Fresh characters, environments, and gameplay concepts are often born through new franchises, and according to the 2K Games earnings call conducted today, something special is coming from the major publisher in the near future." (2K Games, PC, PS4, Xbox One)

Update Mod note: I urge people to not latch onto the last paragraph of this submission. It could be anything. Don't take one site's speculation attached to news of a quote of a new IP and run with it. Thank you, cgoodno.

Agent PS4
Lionheart377  +   998d ago
I would love to see that. There's no way that's a PS3 game anymore.
coolbeans  +   998d ago
How can you be so certain?

-Been in development for years, meaning costs are probably high
-PS3 has a current userbase of over...80 million
-Number of PS4's at launch will be a fraction of that

Or did you mean 'there's no way it's a PS3 exclusive?'

Well, I'm not sure it's been in development for years. For all we know, Rockstar put it on ice to work on other things, knowing it would move to the PS4.
coolbeans  +   998d ago
"For all we know, Rockstar put it on ice to work on other things.."

Their answers about Agent's development cycle in the past prove otherwise.

We might not know how many were working on the game at a time, but they've never indicated its development was shelved for the time being.
Lionheart377  +   998d ago
You have a point, but could you imagine Agent and GTA 5 both launching in the fall? Or, even crazier, Agent hitting the PS3 in 2014?
coolbeans  +   998d ago
Well the things is: I'm not excluding the chance of it being an "exclusive" for both active PS consoles (in production), just going after the notion of it not being possible to release as a PS3 game.

"Or, even crazier, Agent hitting the PS3 in 2014?"

Given Sony's and third-parties' dedication to the PS2 after 3 released, I wouldn't consider it to be THAT crazy of an idea.

Note: If a term like "cross-gen exclusive" for x/y consoles is coined in the near future, you can pinch me. :P

@coolbean just because it was announced doesn't mean they were developing the game because if anyone remembers sorcery for the ps move, what we saw was just a playable proof of concept .

It seems the game is still in development.
The question of the game's existence was once again asked about at an around the table question forum after the PS4 was revealed to Shuhei Yoshida, to which he answered

"You are asking the wrong person. I have some knowledge, but I'm not in a position to talk about it."

At this point I think this will be a PS4 Title given the structure of R*'s pipeline and release time frames. Given that Shuhei knows about it I'd say R* is ready to finally show it off.
coolbeans  +   998d ago
Read the link provided in my 2nd comment. R* admitted in Q + A's of Agent being in active development in both 2010 and 2011.

"...because if anyone sorcery for the ps move, what we saw was just a playable proof of concept ."

I don't see how that's a rational counter-argument.

@coolbean My comment was more of a counter that the game had a high development cost as there was no release date just an announcement, sorcery was just an example, there was a stage demo but the game came out like two years later and had a different art style.

Rockstar arent the only Developer 2K own and i doubt Rockstar would let 2K announce the're game for them.
coolbeans  +   998d ago
I'm still trying to rack my brain about the point you're trying to get across. I mentioned the probability of high dev costs to put into perspective why it seems a tad silly to think this might not be a PS3 game at all.

Sorcery as an example doesn't really mirror this situation either: it's a first-party developed game and launched at a $40 price point, showing it certainly wasn't a big-budget title like Agent promises to be.
zebramocha  +   998d ago
@coolbean My point was how can you factor in price of it being high or going multiplat when there was no gameplay shown just an announcement?secrecy was an example because it was playable on stage but the game development didn't start until after the unveiling and the link you've provided shows rockstar and Sony have a good relationship so I find it hard to believe that rockstar couldn't make a game efficiently on the ps3/4 unless their game is very ambitious in scope. I don't think their will be a difference in cost from first party and third other then what they are trying to do with the game.

My guess is that AGENT is a VITA title.

Recently they said a major game was coming to the Vita that we'd sink many hours into. I think this is it. Vita/PS3 cross play seems to make the most sense here to me. And I thought i read somewhere that rockstar was working on vita games.

"My point was how can you factor in price of it being high or going multiplat when there was no gameplay shown just an announcement?"

In regards to price: have you still bothered to look at Agent's wikipage I linked above? Take-Two's former CEO recognized Agent as an AAA title (meaning budget) years ago.

In regards to multiplat: I can then SPECULATE why it's more feasible to believe the title would look to release on PS3 at some time given the chance to make more money from the current userbase.

"... I find it hard to believe that rockstar couldn't make a game efficiently on the ps3/4 unless their game is very ambitious in scope."

Well it's been called "ambitious in scope" from the beginning so there you go.

"I don't think their will be a difference in cost from first party and third other then what they are trying to do with the game."

And now you lost me again. :/

The article says 2K games so how on earth can it be Agent?

R* is developing Agent...unless that has changed and it has been handed over to 2K games.

"2K is an American global developer, marketer, distributor and publisher of video games.[1] 2K Games is a subsidiary of Take-Two Interactive. It was created on January 25, 2005 after Take-Two acquired developer Visual Concepts and its wholly owned subsidiary Kush Games from Sega for US$24 million"

Key word being subsidiary which R* is also a subsidiary of Take-Two.

My bet is that its a sport game.

This I have to see.
Outside_ofthe_Box  +   998d ago
^^^ A NFL2K game or any football game as a matter of fact from 2K would be groundbreaking actually.
MysticStrummer  +   998d ago
I guess that depends on how you define groundbreaking. I enjoyed NFL2K, but no game based on the NFL or any other sport would qualify as groundbreaking to me, unless we're talking about some kind of revolutionary virtual reality, but even then the game itself wouldn't be the groundbreaking thing.

showtimefolks  +   998d ago
I think this is just the start, most if not all big publishers have new IP's in development and its matter of time before they show them

Many will be shown at this years E3, also lets not forget we will get few before E3 on spike TV video GTTV show.

It's gonna be fun

Take two only make quality games so this could be huge

"We also have an extraordinary pipeline of titles in development for next-generation platforms, including groundbreaking new intellectual property and releases from our proven franchises,”

To me, this is just a general statement and nothing to be excited about. Of course they are going to have a combination of new IP and old franchises returning for the next gen consoles and that's basically all he's saying. Agent is probably amongst those new IP but I read this statement as if new IP was a plural in this sentence so all I'm saying is, I don't think he's referring to anything specific.

And he says 2K has GTA5 later this year to help its earnings. How did this article get approved?

"We also have an extraordinary pipeline of titles in development for next-generation platforms, including groundbreaking new intellectual property and releases from our proven franchises,” Zelnick continued.

By platforms he means multiple systems so it will be a new game or Agent is multi-platform now. Remember, Bioshock once was a X360 exclusive and it went multiplatform at the end. Same could happen to Agent because it makes economic sense to do so and since Blu-Ray will be on both next gen systems, space limitation is not an issue for not releasing it on multiple systems to rake in as much money as possible.

You seem to have missed the key word... "titles".

It's not an either/or situation, like you suggested, because nothing specifies every one of those games will be on every platform. All you can get from that statement is that at least two next-gen platforms will see a game he is referring too.

LKHGFDSA  +   998d ago
Personallly, I think Agent was L.A. Noire.
Since you play as an agent in that. and it also used to be PS3 exclusive.
I think I remember reading that the game wasn't originally set in an old era, but then they changed it.
younglj01  +   998d ago
Hopefully it is an PS4 launch title also.I been looking any type of info on Agent.I'm just ready too see what R* have instore for us...
WeAreLegion  +   998d ago
Didn't Sony actually PAY them to make an exclusive IP? (Agent)
Root  +   997d ago
They paid them to make L.A Noire but then Rockstar asked them if they would let it go multiplatform in return for an official fully developed Rockstar title, aka AGENT, instead....they said yes, L.A Noire went multiplatform and AGENT was announced.

However they havent held up their side of the bargain, so they either pay Sony back or they make them an exclusive game
MultiConsoleGamer  +   998d ago
I'm sad they won't be at E3.
Adolph Fitler  +   998d ago
Yeh, they still owe Sony that game apparently, & Sony PS3 owners have waited patiently since they were screwed on the extra missions for GTA4 (that ended up coming anyway, lol) that MS over paid $50million for.
YodaCracker  +   998d ago
The $50 million was a loan that helped fund GTA IV's development. And Rockstar does not "owe" Sony anything. As for Agent, the last we heard of it was back at E3 2011, in an interview where Jack Tretton dodged the question of exclusivity:

Keighley: "Still exclusive to PS3, though?"
Tretton: "I'm not sure where we're going to end up on that ... I think we'll be very pleased with the PS3 offering on Agent."

Sure doesn't sound like an exclusive anymore to me!
