SnowCastle Games On Holding A Festival Of Magic On Wii U

Nintendo Life: Nordic developer SnowCastle Games is bringing its epic RPG Festival of Magic to the Wii U eShop, adding yet another promising title to the console's expanding roster of independent releases. We spoke to studio founder Bendik Stang about the development of the game, its influences and the benefits of working with the Unity engine. (Festival of Magic, SnowCastle, Wii U)

The name alone makes it so fitting for the Wii U.

The indie scene on the Wii U might become one of its saving graces. Microsoft had huge sucsess with xbox live arcade, and from reports, nintendo seems to be making it easy for small developers.

Nintendo's reportedly done a lot of things to help indies out:

- Wii U dev kits are about the cost of a high-end PC
- no policy to screen game concepts of an indie's project
- faster certification approval process
- free patching for eShop
- self-publish (even if a title isn't exclusive to WiiU)
- no office requirement
- no unit threshold sales requirement
- improved Nintendo contact support
- Miiverse communities
- indie dev controls price and sales price of their games
- Nintendo web framework, Unity Pro (makes it very easy to port iOS titles to Wii U) , and new tool support for HTML5, JavaScript and CSS (makes it easy to put apps on WiiU)

It's nice to see Nintendo has removed its head out of its ass. It looks like, Sony and Microsoft will be improving their respective online platforms as well with similar improved support for indy developers.
