Square Enix Is Hosting Vagrant Story Art Exhibit

Artnia, the Square Enix cafe, is becoming the place to go to for Square Enix fans. They had a Final Fantasy VIII art exhibit in April and starting this week there’s a Vagrant Story art showcase. (Retro, Vagrant Story)

SquareEnix would rather make sequels using their big-name franchises. They aren't smart enough to think "hey, one of our old titles has combat that is still fresh and unique, even to this day. Perhaps we should revisit it".

I imagine they'd turn it into a full-blown action RPG anyway. Parasite Eve 1 and 2 had a reasonably unique combat system, but look at what happened with 3rd Birthday...

In some aspects White Knight Chronicles has a similar combat system to this.

When you fight big monsters they have areas that you can attack and cause a difference in how the fight plays out. Focus on one leg till it breaks then they fall over, hit them in the face with enough damage and their mask might break, etc. In addition to that, when you're doing combos there's an indicator for when to press the button to chain the next hit, if press on time throughout the combo you do more damage.

It's not exactly like Vagrant story but it is somewhat similar.

I also really liked this game, Square-enix would be smart to re-visit it and make it a franchise but Square-Enix hasn't made many smart decisions recently.

Yes I loved this game the battle system was amazing and unique, the story was incredible, graphics were outstanding and it was challenging sadly Square is a shell of their former self.

I cannot understand why SE have not made a Vagrant Story sequel. Is there nobody within the company who has brilliant ideas anymore?

SE trying to be "more western" is effectively destroying the company. I guess Vargrant Story is just too "Japanese" for a western sequel. /s

And nothing will come of it in regards to a game.

Sadly, its just Square Enix spinning their Squaresoft wheels.

Why don't they have an overall Ivalice exhibit and throw in some FFTactics and FFXII art as well?

oh my god I would absolutely kill for a TRUE Tactics sequel

SE must release a full artbook for Akihiko Yoshida art from FF Tactics, FF XII, Vagrant Story, Tactics Ogre, and Bravely Default. He deserve it because i think he is the true successor of Yoshitaka Amano.

See this is the thing. Square sits on a game like Vagrant Story. A true Sequel with only minor tweaks to the combat I'd Love it
