IGN - Find out why you need to keep this PS3 and Vita side-scrolling RPG front-and-center on your radar.
Boobs? Serious answer: Its the type of game which we should have been seeing at the beginning of this console cycle, not the tail end. Why we didn't, why is it happening now? Because of the insistence/push for $60 titles and this is $40 game. Not a $9 to $20 PSN title, but $40. And yes I'm talking about the PS3 version, but I'll hand them over an extra $10 because I'm that desperate for a good side scrolling beatem up - bastards even got me for a pre-order with the damn art book...
Why is it 40 dollars? Because it's 2D? You haven't even played it yet. How can you judge what the price should be?
Yes. I'm definitely getting this:-DD
Dragon's Crown on PS3 is $50. Vita version is $40.
In Japan they carry the same price tag :-(
It's actually $50 and yes imo a laughable price for a side scroller.. No matter how good this looks and does it ever look amazing.. $50 for a sidescroller in 2013 is ridic
So...: 1) People don't fully read comments like most of us don't read/comprehend articles. 2) People can't see the differences between gameplay trailers for this and something like Hard Corps, the BloodRayne PSN/XBL title or even the arcade D&D game? Hard Corps: https://www.youtube.com/wat... Bloodryne: https://www.youtube.com/wat... Dungeons and Dragons: Shadows Over Mystara https://www.youtube.com/wat... All side scrollers this gen made directly for console have either been a joke or nonexistent.
If they can charge $60 for fighting games...they can charge $50 for side-scrolling games. At least this one looks original. That's like saying they shouldn't charge $60 for FPS's because they've been around so long and all play the same...when we have Bioshock: Infinite proving that wrong in a very big way. I personally don't think The Wonderful 101 looks like it's worth $60. It looks like a solid downloadable title...but because it's releasing on the Wii U, everybody is going crazy over it. I enjoy my Wii U, but I'm not going to get excited for a game that the other consoles would get as a $10 downloadable title. Dragon's Crown may be in the side-scrolling genre, but it is much more than "just a side-scroller". Honestly, I can't believe Nintendo released New Super Mario Bros. U like it was. It's the worst Mario game in years. Completely uninspired. People paid $60 for that though.
Some FPS and fighting titles this gen weren't worth $60 the first day they were released, weren't AAA, and yet publishers of such titles had the nerve to charge for them. I'm not calling Dragon's Crown is "just another side-scroller" - that's the exact opposite of what I'm saying - but based on what a AAA title is suppose to be its not worth $60 - and the publisher agrees. Because $60 was the early instant price point for this console generation, because of HD production costs and Blu-ray, that the price scale for games overall was ruined. Between that and the emergence of $1 iPhone titles. This console generation was a mess. It was rushed into and overestimated on several levels. That we're getting a game like DC when we are, that there haven't been more, is proof of that.
Ummm... wasn't Halo ODST a full 60 bucks at retail too? The game with a 2-3 hour campaigne and Halo 3's multiplayer? 60 bucks for some games is absurd but a 50 for DC doesn't seem too much at all.
Do we know how much content is in the game though? if it has a ton of content then who cares if it's $50.
@insomnium2, We know you don't like Microsoft, we know you rarely if ever say anything positive about the Xbox 360 but to suggest Halo ODST was 2-3 hours is trolling. It's about 6 hours. Yes it's still rather short but not nearly as bad as you would like others to believe because you have some sort of agenda against anything regarding the Xbox 360. There are lots of games that are about 10 hours and have no multiplayer that cost $60 as well. Halo ODST probably should have been priced for $40 instead but it's not a 2-3 hour campaign, let's get real. Unless you're running but then most game times could be cut in half then.
Want a good comparison? Rayman: Origins. Good price for a good game.
This kind of game comes every blue moon my friend. Double Dragon Golden Axe Final Fight Bare Knuckle 2 Super Shinobi GunsStar Heroes Panzer Bandit Guardian Heroes Odin Sphere then now its Dragon's Crown a 2D side scrolling JRPG that plays like Guilty Gear with the Amazon and Sorceress air dashing their enemies I'd be just very grateful to be alive and have the chance to play it come August 2013. George Kamitani is now the King of 2D games. PS. I am also very grateful this niche Japanese game got free exposure and publicity before it launches. Not many Japanese games get this lucky nowadays.
My penis is excited.
porn is free.
You don't have to tell me buddy. I've been exited since I first saw it months ago. This is going to be like castle crashers on crack. Buying it Day 1 on PS Vita and i'll probably get the PS3 version too if i find it on sale or can get a bundle deal with the vita version. Reason i'm buying it on VITA first is because of the ability to use party chat while playing. Works so good in Soul sacrifice.
This game looks boobs. I will be getting it day one. The gameplay is boobs and looks fun. Coop sounds pretty boobs too!
I want Greg's Jacket ! on topic: I will be purchasing this game day 1!
IGN: Hypes up a game before release. Then when release code is available, craps on it. I'm expecting nothing different, but I hope I'm wrong. In other news, I'm looking forward to this game!
Don't hurt me, Vanillaware-baby. I just want some of dem gorgeous visuals and smooth beat'em up gameplay.
awww shoot son Vanillaware be hittin' that ass all night long.
Thats what they said about soul sacrifice only to make a video on release day about how its not good enough to be a killer app. Bunch of backstabbers.
Cool comes out on my birthday.
This game looks amazing but I bet ign will score this game in the 6.5-7.5 range since its a vita title and then make a video explaining why it isnt "Vitas killer app". I dont put too much thought into review scores, but some do and it would suck if this game was skipped by people because of the score.
I literally just said that lmao^^^
Thought i already reserved it but checked yesterday & i didnt.. Glad i double checked cuz its coming with a nice art book if you preorder.. The boobs & blood? im in! Plus vanilla ware rocks! Going to buy Muramasa on vita & this on PS3 at 1st.. Ill get the vita version later on.. I cant wait to dive in
Excited because this IS a Vanillaware games and worth every penny from me. For people who turn it down just because they didn't like the price or they hate the boobs / tits in this game, than by any means: DON'T BUY IT!
Since Odin Sphere and GrimGrimoire were both part of my favorite games from the ps2 era, this one will likely be part of my favorites on the ps3. Placed my pre-order already, so I can get the bonus art-book! :D I really like the art style in Vanilla Ware games, and looking at the trailers, they really did a great job on this one. The game looks fun, I just hope the leveling system is a bit more streamlined than in Odin Sphere (Having to go back to the restaurant to buy food every now and then took a long of time, mainly because of loading). Can't wait. I think I'll play with the wizard and the elf mainly.
