Warren Spector: Use the storytelling tools that work for games

Gamasutra: "Warren Spector is well known for focusing on creating games where players can make meaningful choices. At a talk at the UC Santa Cruz's Inventing the Future of Gaming symposium, he set out to ask an important question, even perhaps the ventral question that defines his work: Can we level up game stories without compromising gameplay?" (Industry, Warren Spector)

Brilliant and I think he is right in so many ways.

All game-types have a right to exist and are fun-awesome (if done right).

But to evolve they have to "Build Worlds" Not (movie) sets with non-working doors.

I think that this maybe the generation where people put more focus on AI and Dynamic Storytelling.

I really want games to be as diverse as literature and movie- and be able to handle any subject with intelligence, respect, and dignity.

I agree. For the better, video games are evolving and making strides in different forms. Powerful stories, great soundtracks, top notch voice acting, and well written scripts are being seen more often. That's why I'm excited for the next generation.

Developers really seem to be giving this aura of creativity that needs to be unleashed. The video game industry needs great stories and intriguing gameplay mechanics. That is how any game can be separated from the pack and have a gamer say, "I remember how awesome this game was."

I'd love Warren to work on another game like Deus Ex.
