Why A Diablo III Console Release Is Exciting

FrontBurnr: Diablo 3 officially released on PC on May 5th 2012 and quickly became a reason to get back into PC gaming if you hadn’t been at the time. Unfortunately, the launch was bogged down by server issues (remember all the Error 37 talk?) for the first few days, and saw a lot of rage due to its always-online requirement. It sold extremely well and is regarded as a very good game but hasn’t fulfilled the promises of a fully functional PvP mode.

So, over a year after its release, why should the playstation fan base be excited about Diablo 3 on their console?

I think It would be fun to play Diablo 3 over again on console. With a joystick and a couch :)

GOOD! thats what ruined D3 for me in the end..

I remember prior to D3's release, there were a number of questions/comments about controller support, and Blizzard said stuff like "not right for the game, NOPE" and defended RMAH with "an integral part of the game" and a bunch of other bullshit.

It's really sad that the console version is shaping up to be significantly superior to the PC version.

adorie1142d ago

Yup. The RMAH is Blizzard's greed. They have a right to monetize the black market, I guess.

But, the gold dupe that happened with 1.08 is going to force Blizzard to do-or-die.

It doesn't look any better actually, same game. Always online on pc, and consoles themselves are drm. Pick your poison?

Canary1141d ago

@kevnb: I don't see how "consoles themselves are DRM." Piracy exists on -EVERY- platform.

The simple fact of the matter is that console gamers will be able to play Diablo 3 offline. This means they can play the game whenever they want to, not only when Blizzard says they can.

They will also be able to play the game simply by running the game. They won't be forced to go through a launcher that forces the game to update, nor will they be forced to log-in to an account each time they want to play.

So, basically, it's not a matter of "pick your poison..." it's a matter of one platform offering a clearly superior experience to the other.

Because most people who only have consoles and don't have a PC gaming rig can play it. And the best thing about it is that it can be played "Offline"

Snookies121142d ago

The online only thing is the reason I didn't buy it. It's also the reason I didn't buy Sim City on PC. So now that it's got an offline mode on console, I shall play it. If developers want my money, they sure as heck aren't going to get it by doing online only. I'm against pirating for the most part, but I'd pirate a game before dealing with that crap.

CEOSteveBallmer1142d ago

I agree bro, I could have also bought a diablo 3 on my laptop but when I heard the news Online required then i did not buy it. My internet is not so reliable. And there are ways to combat piracy not like this awful senseless always online DRM

Pc gaming rigs? Diablo 3 can be played on almost anything.

Ozmoses1142d ago

I'm gonna love it. I don't feel like spending the money for a PC or do I really have the space for one.

I think they can do it for the console just fine. It should be a fun experience and a good community for consoles.

Aaron Colas1142d ago

Diablo 3 is very unimpressive technically, it has slightly improved World of warcraft graphics. So no need to have "rig" for that game.

I find it ironic that Blizzard is bringing that game to consoles when they didn't even cared about including controller support (or wasd movement) for the pc version.

jvelite1142d ago

Ironic? I'm sorry but Blizzard does what is best after a lot of internal testing/feedback. The reason why they didn't do a controller support for the PC is because the game doesn't feel good with it.

They have explained that they had to go through and revamp and change a lot of skills to make a controller feel "right". It is not a simple translation.

Somebody1142d ago

The PS4 is designed based on the PC architecture and it is widely assumed that would help inter platform game development smoother and faster.

So there's no reason for Blizzard to be able to make the control changes for consoles but inexplicably unable to apply those codes back to the PC.

Look at Bastion. An isometric RPG designed by an indie dev and yet I can easily switched between my keyboards and X-box controller whenever I want to. They don't have the millions that Blizzard have in the bank and yet they managed to do the impossible.

Sounds more like they knew or guessed they could someday port it on consoles and didnt feel like cannibalizing those potential sales imo .

Given how streamlined D3's interface ended up being , they could have included pad controls on pc , if they cared to

Baka-akaB1142d ago (Edited 1142d ago )

While unimpressive technically the game isnt as polished as the usual Blizzard release . I've seen quite a few laptop struggle and only run it at 30 fps if not below , when they can usually run more impressive game fine .

jvelite1142d ago

I love how you say playstation-only. You know in another week we are going to hear it will be on xbox right?... lol

MasterCornholio1142d ago

They could have announced it for the 360 as well since the game is also on the PS3. But they didnt which is why i have a slight doubt that its going to be on the XBOX.

But i wouldnt be surprised if there was an xbox version.
