Consoles that won’t die: The NES

It’s nearly 30 years old, but the Nintendo Entertainment System is not just a platform for fueling misty-eyed nostalgia. Savvy gamers are also embracing a growing homebrew scene that’s resulting in new physical releases for the aging, but far-from-dead, gray box. (Nintendo, Retro)

About 8-10 years ago a buddy of mine gave me a burnt CD with NESter and 700+ NES games on it I could play on my dreamcast and to this day I will still boot it up and play through some of my childhood memories. NES is the gift that keeps on giving now that my daughters 5 I plan on letting her have it and raise her up on videogames the same way I did.

Off topic: other things I've been able to enjoy with my kids from my youth; Thundercats, TMNT (old and new), batman the animated series, and Teen Titans (old and new), and the list goes on and on.
It's amazing to be able to see the excitement in their faces while watching shows and playing games that defined my youth.

I'm not a father, but I've been impressed with the way my sister has been raising my niece through He-Man, Thundercats, the 90's Power Rangers, 80's Transformers, etc. And she loves them all!

Very cool stuff. I still dust off the old classics, but new releases?? Want.

Surprising! Most everyone hates the NES and loves the SNES.

It kinda depends. Among the retro enthusiasts I know, there's a funny disconnect -- they like playing SNES games more (and 16-bit games in general), but when it comes to collecting, they're more into the NES stuff.

Actually, now that I think about it, the curve kind of slopes backward through time. SNES/Genesis collectors are sorta crazy. NES collectors are pretty crazy. Then you have the 2600 collectors, who are completely out to lunch.
