Why Uncharted Is The Most Overrated Game This Gen

It’s no secret that Uncharted is one of, if not the, biggest franchise on PS3 at the moment. Coming out of the gate in late 2007, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune was met with success. Not amazing success, but success. The action-platformer gameplay was a breath of fresh air, but drew unavoidable comparisons with the likes of Tomb Raider, or Indiana Jones. Still, the game was a well-built, solid, fun experience. Or is it?

Its such and over rated series that uncharted 2 is the most award winning game this gen but the 3 games were terrible i get what your saying..... /facepalm

Nitrowolf21895d ago (Edited 1895d ago )

This site is utter BS.
Look at these recent articles:

Now my first thought, "oh maybe different writers"
"by Dalton" on all of them.

>Reads this article:
"You also get an unnecessary multiplayer component that’s far inferior to the single player, and gets repetitive within 2 matches."
>Reads The Best Developer Article:
"All of the Uncharted games are amazing in their own right, not just gameplay wise, but visually as well, and you can’t forget the addicting multiplayer."

So which is it?
Flaimbait of course - "contrary to your typical 15-year old PS3 gamer’s opinion"

wishingW3L1895d ago (Edited 1895d ago )

he's just repeating the same thing he said on those old articles. It seems the author just found out about N4G's weak-spot and now he's proceeding to exploit the hell out of it! lol

Root1895d ago

I have this small theory....and it's just a theory...that he doesn't really like Uncharted that much

Cam9771895d ago

Just down vote this crappy website and don't click on it to stop the idiot receiving revenue. This is just a plot for hits, nothing more.

dafegamer1895d ago

lol whe I read the headline, I already knew that it was the same site posting this. Butthurt Xbox fanboys still shitting on uncharted

thechosenone1895d ago (Edited 1895d ago )

xlockingupthesunx is the owner of the site, check his submission history, nothing but MS love fest.

I don't think anyone.. anyone would complain about UC melee system. Shortage of ammo? And here I thought having the guns scattered all over the place was a bit much. Learn how to shoot you faking noob.

Above where it says 'read full story' click on the sites name and rate it as 'WTF' and 'No'. Thanks.

morganfell1895d ago

Another teenage writer that wrongly thinks a forest is a collection of trees, a Harley is a frame with two wheels, women's breasts are just sacks of fat, and of course Uncharted is just a broken game. People with no depth always think complex items are simply a sum of their parts. It's time to clean house and vote that site with all the disdain it and it's 12 year old writer deserve.

MaxXAttaxX1895d ago (Edited 1895d ago )

Maybe he's spraying everywhere and should try to be more precise by being, you know, not bad at the game.

Could he think of anything more trivial to complain about? -_- smh

SolidStoner1894d ago

overrated no...

I played first and second, great games for a gamer, since im more simulation fan ,it was way too arcade for me... but like I sayd, it vas great if you are a gamer (compered to other games it was excellent)... after 10 years it will be overrated! :D if you get what I meant!

sir_fortesque1894d ago

I keep clicking on these dumb articles because I like to read the comments. I thought if I didn't hit "Read full story" it doesn't count as a hit for them. Is that right?

Instead of coming here and blindly defending Uncharted, you should have read the article. The author said nothing about Uncharted being "terrible". In fact, the author says.

"So, there you have it. Now, let it be said, I don’t hate Uncharted. I find it enjoyable."

Second, if amount of awards are the determining factor of establishing that something isn't overrated , then Avatar is the best film of all time, Barack Obama is the most peaceful President on the planet, and Taylor Swift is the greatest female singer of our generation.

Nitrowolf21895d ago (Edited 1895d ago )

It's not about the awards though, it's about the reasoning. IDK if you've played them, but can you really tell me it's overrated because you weren't paying attention to the story? Like I said, they explain the reasoning behind that flashback he has.

Avatar was overrated for many reasons. If you take away the CGI, then all you have is poor acting with a decent story. None of the characters really mattered, especially when some of them died. Don't sit there and tell me it had some top notch acting, because honestly it didn't. The characters didn't feel as alive. Like I said, all it has going is the CGI, which I'll admit is incredible. I like to think Avatar as the movie version of Crysis. Amazing graphics, everything else, meh.

Try taking one component out of Uncharted and your still left with many others.

Give me solid points with Uncharted as to why it's overrated. If you say "It's not realistic", I don't think any reviews out there every stressed about how realistic these position Drake gets into. Most reviewers would compare Uncharted to an action movie, as in impossible situations become possible. Most reviews were straight forward with that kind of thing.

There's a reason why many consider GTA 4 Overrated to. It's not because it improved a lot on the series, because many loved that. It's because it felt like it stemmed away from it, which is why many talked about Saint Rows during GTA4 release and how it was the more GTA style game (until they went way overboard). Look at what we can do in the past GTA titles without the story. There's plenty to go messing around with. GTA 4 was more grounded to reality, you can do some things, but it truly became boring without the story.

SpringHeeledJack1895d ago

Notice how you never attack 360 games or people defending a 360 exclusive. Take a day off attacking people and posting offtopic once in a while.

LOGICWINS1895d ago

@NitroWolf- Yes, I have played the three games. I never agreed or disagreed that Uncharted was overrated. That has nothing to do with my argument. I was debating the futility of awards. Totally different argument.

As far as if Uncharted is overrated or not, frankly, I don't care. Everyone has their opinions. I enjoy the games, thats all that matters.

@SpringHeeledJack- Feel free to see it that way if you wish. In the meantime, I'll be adding you to my ignore list.

majiebeast1895d ago (Edited 1895d ago )

If we are gonna count as overrated we might aswell put every high ranked game on the overrated list.

Uncharted 2 won the trifecta of awards

-Gamers(videogame awards)
-Critics(Websites goty)
-Developers(DICE awards

So you wanna really go and compare that to Barrack Obama's 1 nobel price or Taylor Swift.

You are spinning right now and its pretty damn hilarious, your showing your green colour quite clearly in this article.

majiebeast1895d ago (Edited 1895d ago )

Logicwins at it again stealth trolling in a anti playstation article what a surprise. This is getting old everyone knows your a 360 fanboy already how you got 7 bubbles is a joke and shows how flawed the bubble system is.

wishingW3L1895d ago (Edited 1895d ago )

he does that every time he regains his bubbles back but when he starts to lose them then he becomes kind of a PS3 fanboy again. It's kind of scary how good he is at manipulating the users of this site.

You just need to read a few sentences of the article to know that this is obviously flame-bait. It's nothing but hyperbole and badly conjured opinions. I mean, the guy says that Uncharted sucks because it's unrealistic!

MikeMyers1895d ago (Edited 1895d ago )

What awards did Avatar receive? It certainly wasn't best actor, writing or best picture was it?

Uncharted is a fun series. Not sure why we need to crap over it. Sure the story has plot holes and the seriousness isn't really there. It's like watching a Michael Bay movie, you don't go in expecting Oscar screenplays but to be entertained. Uncharted 3 was probably the most overrated of them all but that's because #2 set the bar so high.

People shouldn't be offended or be overly defensive about this article. Otherwise you just look like an insecure fanboy.

Diver1895d ago (Edited 1895d ago )

No logic, just no logic. See what I did there? And its doubly true.

You don't get to yell fire in a crowded theater an then claim you were talking about a scene from a movie. An you don't get to write an article with a flame bait title an expect peeps to wade through childish deductions to try an find a snippet of logic.

The only thing worse than writing this article is defendingit.

You think you know somebody by a avatar? We know you by your eternal an relentless Sony hating diatribe.

An don't act like you walk the middle cause everybody here knows what you are an if you didn't have a ton o fake accounts bubbling you up you'd be history cause we all see the truth about you.

Gears of War anybody? How's that for over rating.

Hicken1894d ago

... I can't figure out how this guy still has ANY bubbles.

I guess it's because there's no option to bubble somebody down for being an idiot.

TronEOL1894d ago

The issue with this whole thing tho, isn't just that we're gauging Uncharted's success based purely around awards and sales. But the fact that it massively influenced the gaming industry.

As soon as Uncharted set the Benchmark for game-quality (especially animations) and a true cinematic game experience, every other game started doing it, and most games tried copying Uncharted's "everyman" character archetype.

You'd have to be blind to have not noticed how most games got hugely cinematic, with massive interactive set pieces that were akin to those seen in movies after Uncharted came out.

Some people may not enjoy Uncharted as most others do (and that's fine), but it is undoubtedly one of the most influential games of this generation (besides Call of Duty) whether you like it or not.

And if that isn't enough, most developers shoot to recruit other fellow developers from Naughty Dog. Bungie, Valve and Treyarch (and I think 343) are three massive developers that looked specifically at Naughty Dog. Even Kojima looks to Naughty Dog for advice.

And most, if not all, of this fame comes from Uncharted. You don't see many other games getting the same treatment.

Then you stack on the fact that it is one of the most critically acclaimed games in history (over 200 awards) and noticed even by those in the movie industry, then it starts getting a bit crazy. I wouldn't say Uncharted is the best game in history, but it certainly is one of the most well-made games ever and is perfect at what it does/is.

"Logicwins at it again stealth trolling in a anti playstation article what a surprise. This is getting old everyone knows your a 360 fanboy already how you got 7 bubbles is a joke and shows how flawed the bubble system is."

Glad i'm not the only one who recognizes this. Funny how he did this in his old account, deadreckoning666, but yet somehow has 7 bubbles with account. smh

Not overrated. The Uncharted series is one of the few games that have nailed character development, amazing acting performance including voice. I agree to the extent that it has a cookie cutter story but that isn't what makes Uncharted a loved franchise. The execution of the things I mentioned makes it stand out from the rest.

TronEOL1894d ago

Well with the story thing, most games and movies have "cookie cutter" stories at this point. Even those massively loved indie games/movies that are supposed to break walls.

But when you mix everything together (character development, art, acting, animations, etc), you get what the product is intended to be. So when you're playing Uncharted, you're immersed in the world because everything is so well done. So even though the story isn't the smartest story in the world, it's still a incredibly well wrapped package that is hard to find anywhere else.

pain777pas1895d ago

You know nothing about games if you consider Uncharted one of the greatest artistic, technical and well paced games series of all time as overated. Kirby or Mario are overated and dated BUT are fun in their simplicity and charm. Uncharted and Infamous are underapreciated. When we lack the appreciation for quality we get crappy games. Uncharted controls well, has collectibles, AI, great level designs that allow for a variety of tactics even from the first game in the series. I am dumb founded by some "journalists". Without Uncharted, Bioshock and Mass Effect this generation would have been TERRIBLE and suffer from Sequelitis from last generation. Don't get me wrong. Halos, God of Wars, MGS.... are great but those series are from a previous generation. Show appreciation for the success of a new IP like Uncharted being high quality and even made to inspire the industry at the very least because that is what this series did probably as much as GTA3 and on have done last generation.

DemonSlayer4201895d ago

I'm actually playing through Uncharted 2 right now and it's amazing, the franchise definitely peaked with 2 but 3 is great as well. Can't wait for Last of Us, less than a month.....

nosferatuzodd1895d ago

pay no attention this troll why feed him if uncharted is the most overrated game then my god i dont know what to call Halo i could say the same quake and doom rip off

"we get to play as a teenage Nathan Drake! [...] And this segment adds absolutely nothing to the story, aside from showing how Sully became Nate’s lackey!"

You definitely know NOTHING about storytelling.

maxgamehard1895d ago

I totally agree with you. This portion of the game explained the relationship between Sully and Drake and showed how important their friendship is. I thought this was very well done and helped progress the story further.

Thatguy-3101895d ago

I think the flashback could have been longer and it could have emphasize how their relationship grew. We didn't see much we just got to see how sully met drake and that's it. People create their own vision of how things played out from the small details that flashback provided. That's one of the reason I didn't enjoy Uncharted 3 and felt it was rushed. The narrative wasn't told in a very smart way like Uncharted 2 was. Uncharted 2 did a flash back the right way because you got to know EVERY single detail of the story that led up to how the game started.

Nitrowolf21895d ago (Edited 1895d ago )

" I’m not sure just what type of crack the writers were smoking at this point in the game, but as they learned the hard way, “Zombies!” doesn’t instantly improve everything (contrary to your typical 15-year old PS3 gamer’s opinion)."

This sounds like a shot at the recent zombie popularity and let me say this first. Zombies weren't even popular when Uncharted released, in fact most people had them in the back of their minds.

"I also love how Nate gets riddled with bullets, but Jeff (RIP) gets shot with one and bites the dust."

Cause maybe Nate is use to this stuff already, whereas Jeff was a camera guy who rarely seen this stuff in person. Oh and it wasn't one bullet that killed him, He was shot, you had to carry him through the level, and then lazarevic shoots him right in the head.

Also with the "unrealistic thing", yea no duh, the game was never suppose to be. A mix of realism with supernatural elements was always the idea since the first game.

"We can now loot your favorite museum as a teenager! And this segment adds absolutely nothing to the story, aside from showing how Sully became Nate’s lackey!"

Did this guy even play the game? They explain that whole scene right in the scene -_-, in fact it's the explanation to as to why Nathan is even treasure hunting still in Uncharted 3.
