PS4-Deals says: "Whenever we see a new console release, there pops up that awkward situation of juggling two systems – the previous and new generation. When do you start shifting focus onto your new console?"
This what had me thinking. I still wanna keep my PS3 for at least 2 more years because of my backlog. Also because of Plus subscription. I wonder how long they'll support it?
It's good till atleast 2016
They just announced that they are going to start selling PS3's in Brasil. & not sure how the whole China console thing is going, but those are two huge markets. How many FIFA's, PES's and PS3's do you think are going to sell in Brasil alone? (despite being 1099 Reals?
I'll keep all my consoles as its what I do. I'm a Video Game Collector, and there's no way i'm getting rid of my PS3.
i think they will support ps3 for another 2 years
I keep all of my consoles, I have a backlog of games and have a lot of space in my house, so my room, living room and Florida room all have consoles in them.
Ummm, I think it's what some people consider a "Bonus room" or something along those lines, we don't have basements here in Florida and so we often have a Living Room and Florida room, the Florida room usually has a lot more windows and is sometimes referred to as a Sun Room. I have mine setup as a retro gaming room, old school 55 inch tube tv, Dreamcast, Gamecube, NES, SNES, Genesis, N64, PS2, Xbox all hooked up.
Why the concern you doubting Thomas'? Has not Sony proven for almost 20 years, they don't abandon their hardware for several years. 1994 PS1 supported for 2-4 years beyond PS2 2000 PS2 supported for 3-6 years beyond PS3 2006 PS3 supported for ?-? years beyond PS4 *Based on Western Markets. All Electronics Technology has extended cycles in developing markets, hence PS2's 12 year cycle.
How someone disagreed with facts you just listed is beyond me. You have to have been living under a rock not to realize Sony's track record with this aspect. Even if you hate them to a passion, you cannot deny that they continue to support their older hardware when new hardware comes out. Wow, the internet is a pretty amazing place sometimes.
there are still a lot of people playing PS2, When it hits $80-120 range it's going to sell better than ever. maybe 300 million+
Just like PS2 live for a lot longer than any other companies game systems..^~^
Its simple really, the ps3 will be around for as long as Sony sees it as a viable platform. The ps3 is profitable and will only get cheaper in existing markets while it migrates new ones in the process. The ps3 will also ensure that Sony offset some of their ps4 losses early on; my guess is the ps3 will start seeing less and less tripple A(exclusive) games as the time goes on. To emerging markets, the old software will become the new with up to date Indies and multplatform releases in the mix. This will ensure the platform lives on for a number of years, will being a profitable asset at that. Overall I think its win situation for them.
