What 'Star Wars' with Electronic Arts means and what about the Wii U?

XMNR: Disney announced an exclusive deal with Electronic Arts on Monday to bring games based on the Star Wars movies to the PS4, next Xbox and PC. The news definitely has ramifications for the console market including the likelihood that Nintendo's Wii U is left on the outside looking in yet again. (PC, PS4, Wii U, Xbox One)

"unprecedented partnership"

Thats all that needs to be said. The WiiU support from EA has actually been worse then with the Gamecube so far, so its unprecedented in that regard.

Who knows if it was a fallout between EA and Nintendo over certain issues thats. Or if EA just doesnt want to waste resources on a port with gamepad features, you cant say EA games have been selling very well on the WiiU.

Well, if BF4 is not coming to the Wii U then it wouldn't surprise me if this doesn't either.

Besides I'm pretty sure all them Wii U owners would rather play this on their PC... ;)

I suggest you look up Schadenfreude. It explains why you post on every remotely negative article on the wii u. I suppose you think you're clever, but really you're just a troll with nothing better to do. You have my pity.

Me, I'm off playing Bioshock Infinite on the PC, Gears of War on the 360, Journey on the PS3 and Lego City on the Wii u. No system's perfect, but they all manage to entertain me enough that I don't need to pick on each one's short comings.

EA left out the Infinity Engine on Madden, and Madden has serious online issues on Wii U. Mass Effect Trilogy was announced on 360/PS3 when Wii U got Mass Effect 3. It's no wonder the EA games aren't selling on Wii U. Poor support from EA! The EA Origin deal fallout with Nintendo was no joke to EA. Even if the install base was larger for Wii U right now, a lot of Wii U owners wouldn't support EA when they put out half butt ports, or announce trilogy's on other consoles after only one sequal of the series gets released on the Wii U.

good grief, this system just can't catch a break.

Frostbite 2 = Need for Speed: Most Wanted U. An EA game on the WiiU.

So yes it will likely come to WiiU. Maybe not in full fleshed Frostbite 3, but Frostbite 2 on WiiU doesn't look bad at all considering its using all PC assets and textures.

Star Wars wouldn't skip WiiU.

Why aren't any Wii U games (or at least not many) using the Wii-mote? Imagine Star Wars with the Wii-mote (and wii-motion-plus for added accuracy) and using it as a light sabre (and nunchuck for navigation).

Also, the Wii game pad could still be used too for menu's, and perhaps controlling ships/millenium falcon.

Even if EA doesn't wanna invest time making features exclusive to the Wii-mote and touch screen of the game pad, they can consolidate that by also allowing these same features on similar tech (PS Move, Cell Phones (both ps4 and 720 will be using cell-phones as second screens), etc.

Seriously, something like that should have been thought up by now, especially the idea of using Wii-mote/Ps move as a precise light sabre, and shooter in a FULL FLEDGED star wars game.

EA will definitely support the U once it gains a stronger intsall base. They simply dont want to waste resources in the shift to next gen. Im willing to bet they dont release versions of this years sports games on the PS4 or next Xbox either for this year. New console owners are tired of getting gimped versions the first time out. Maybe EA will wise up and hold off the relese til next years version to include specific features and actually utilize the next gen power of the U, PS4 and Xbox 720.

I means none are coming to the Wii U unless EA is forced to monetary wise.

disney's relationship with nintendo is still very tight, so i expect them to force EA to at least publish the starwars games on WIIU. EA isnt the owner of star wars, disney IS, so although EA can make tons of money if their star wars games are done right, its still up to disney to decide were those games end up.

if disney does force EA to publish a Star Wars game (pun intended) on a Nintendo console, perhaps we'll be hearing them say, "oh, Frostbite 3 does work on Wii U --- just needed more push i guess ($$$)".

EA needs to pull their head out of their ass. The Wii-U is still a console with fans and people who play the console. And EA wonder why they were voted the worst company because their company practises and skipping a certain console is wrong. I was actually hoping Star Wars would go to Ubisoft, or even Disney themselves they actually hit all the consoles. Or hell let High Moon studios do the Star Wars games and let Activison sink their teeth into the franchise.

What this means for EA is that they will capitalize on the star wars fan base by filling their games up with microtransactions..."you want that double light saber? No problem, that'll be $2.99"...of all the companies they could have chosen in all the world they had to go with EA...

i'm curious to know how much it cost them and for how long... I hope it's not like the nfl license...imagine what Rockstar could do with a star wars license.

EA "could" redeem themselves with nintendo by giving them an exclusive game. They could really do some innovative stuff using the touchpad with the Force... But all in all i don't expect much for the wiiU for the rest of the year, it's just not selling and i doubt EA would waste an exclusive game on it...such a shame.

All this means is the micro rebel transaction alliance against the consumer destroying DRM Star. Or even worse... more Han Solo dancing... on a mobile app that lets you play the first 10 minutes for free... with different dances starting at just $4.99...

What happens if these games end up in the Frostbite 3 engine e.g. Battlefront 3? Surely then Disney cannot force EA to get the game on?

Unprecedented partnership gimme a break. LMFAO!!! Really!?
MilkMan  +   811d ago
They are going to screw the WiiU, but that's cause they are lazy ass programmers that cant be bothered to, you know, optimize their engine.
If Crytek works on WiiU, Frostbyte will.
