GameStop will stop taking PS2 trade-ins as of June 1

GameStop will cease all PlayStation 2-related trade-ins as of June 1, according to a photo of a store display snapped by Reddit user eGORapTure, seen after the break. We contacted multiple GameStop locations and confirmed the news that all PS2 games, accessories and systems will not be accepted for trade across all US stores at that time.

And soon, the PlayStation legacy will continue at E3

dont even sell PS2 games anymore so this does not surprise me.

A location just opened last month near my house. They only have wii, wii-u, ps3, 360, PC, vita, DS/3ds games. They dont even have PSP games at this location.

for those older games, i tend to hit the flea markets. If the stores are doing away with them, they have to end up somewhere.

Older GS stores that have been established still carry ps2 games and even xbox and cube ones. Slowly though, they are doing away with them as well.

If you are in northern CA, best place is dimple records. Hell, i picked up a working set of Atari 2600 wireless controllers for only $5. Their pricing on more high profile retro games can be a tad high though.

StraightPath2021d ago (Edited 2021d ago )

and you already know that how? can you see the future or somthing? The PS2 will be very hard to beat. It had a huge library of amazing games. How come the PS3 didn't come close in beating the PS2? not only in sales but the diverse library and exclusive games the PS2 had, PS3 is no where near.

Why o why2021d ago

Tongue in cheek. Look it up.

The ps3 could well hit the 150 plus million mark. It still has 7 plus years to

akaihana86plus2021d ago

I gotta give you props for your honest comment StraightPath, sadly but true, even tho Ps3 turned out to be a great console, it will never have the same amazing library as the amazing Ps2, but hey!, let's hope Ps4 gets back to basics! :3

Shadow Man2021d ago

because the cell is hard for some developers.

Oh_Yeah2021d ago

The industry has changed since the PS2 man, aaa games now cost a lot more to make, that is why you don't see as many exclusives, most devs have opted for 3rd party so they can get the most from their games. Also the type of games have to be taken into consideration, studios arnt going to dump a lot of money and resources into JRPGs, platformers, puzzle games etc. because those are high risk of not selling well today.

Ashunderfire862021d ago (Edited 2021d ago )

It had a slow start, because of how expensive it was. Plus 360 gain advantage releasing first, and stealing many of Playstation's exclusives in the process like the Metal Gear series, and etc.

cannon88002021d ago

@Straight Path,

Have you ever been so excited for something that you already start jumping to conclusions and such? It happens to everyone, and it's not like it's hurting anyone here; except maybe for people like you that take things slightly too seriously...

BattleAxe2021d ago

Come on you guys, sure the PS2 had some of the best games ever such as my personal favorites like the Socom series, GTA series, Metal Gear Series and Ghost Recon: Jungle Storm, but to suggest that the PS3's library is somehow not up to par is just wrong. I have played a far bigger range of games this generation than I did on the PS2. Besides, some of the PS2's greatest games like GTA 3,GTA:VC, GTA:SA, MGS 2, MGS3, GoW1, GoW2 and Shadow of the Colossus are all available on the PS3. Frankly, I don't think most people know what they're talking about these days.

I better hurry and take a bunch of games that i don't even play anymore, i gotta make room for my new ones! :P

NegativeCreepWA2021d ago

I'd take them to a pawn shop, you'll probably get more money.

akaihana86plus2021d ago

Great idea!, or what about Ebay?!, i have a lot of doubles and most of them are great titles

ps3_pwns2021d ago

uhh pawn stars wont give you much only 1 dollar probably lol

NegativeCreepWA2021d ago (Edited 2021d ago )

Well I got 50 cents for a few of my 360 games a few months ago from GameStop.

The good thing about a pawn shop, they don't if a game isn't worth the price.

I've never actually sold something on ebay, I've never wanted to deal with the shipping.

famoussasjohn2020d ago

Plus they won't be nagged to get their membership card or magazine subscription all throughout the transaction.

thebudgetgamer2021d ago

My second favorite console of all time. Amazing lineup of games and it made porn viewing affordable.
