New Xbox 720 price details leaked from Thurrott

When the new Xbox launches, Thurrott has alleged that it will be launching with two separate SKUs. The first will be the fully-loaded Xbox and will cost gamers around $499, while the second option seems to be a lower-end version of the console that will cost about $299.

There were other details alleged by Thurrott in the piece, but they have already been tossed around too much. For this instance, those are the supposed prices, and the lower-priced system will apparently require gamers to invest $15 per month for an Xbox Live subscription. (Microsoft, Xbox 360, Xbox One)

I think we've had this rumor before but I can't find it, I roughly remember commenting that $499 would be too much for the casual crowd and the $299 monthly installment plan was even worse in the long run. I think MS will aim lower.

update: I have been informed that this is new info, still get the feeling of déjà vu but since I can't find it I'll approve :)

@Qrphe - If Kinect 2 is included in every box it will most likely bump up the price. Although, it may be offset by having slightly lower specs than PS4, which the rumors suggest it will. If MS really want to appeal to the casual mainstream buyers they will have to take a BIG hit at first.

We would have to consider that if Microsoft is willing to match PS4 specs and release Kinect with every system (which wasn't cheap the first time around and won't be this time), then we'd probably see a device more expensive than we would've hoped. But like you say, hopefully they take on the costs and aim for lower.

Thurrott updated the subscription info today and increased it from $10 to $15. So with a two year contract would make it $659 total cost to own the entry level xbox which makes it even more expensive the when Sony launched the PS3.

And here's the part were examiner gives there opinion on the info, in case was wondering why I labeled this article opinion.

"There will no doubt be significant differences in any number of features between the two units. One could have more games as a bundle, an extra controller or additional memory. Anything is possible..."

$15 dollars for 2 years is $360 total.
thechosenone  +   733d ago
@yewles

the cost of the xbox because that's not free $299 w/tax add $24 + $15 over 24 months(standard 2 year contract) = $683 for the total cost of ownership for the next-gen xbox. lol The devil is in the details my friend.

and the Unsubsidized version is $499($60 * 2)= $644 w/ tax.

That two year contract comes with Xbox live gold included. A gold sub is $10 a month. So that's worth $240 in 2 years. You get the console for 300. So that is 660$ in 2 years. But you get gold. So the normal one would have cost,740$ in two years.gold included. So in the long run you save $80. By getting the one with the contract.

No. The info was revised earlier today and the examiner article is also from today.

I first read this info from ign. Although ign reported this over a week ago, my first time reading this on n4g.

But there was a rumor article some days ago about the pricing of the new xbox where u (galactic) made a comment that u think the price would be 499 and a 299 plus subscription, in which I was about to reply to u until my phone died of battery.

Its not dejavu, u literally made a similar comment on a previous rumor/opinion article.

The $299 one could be where the "always on" rumor came from.
GalacticEmpire  +   733d ago
What, like "always on" your bank statement?

Definiteky interested in tje hi end unit. That unit will be compaible with 360 games. It was reported that unit would cost 599.99 i guess MS decided to los a hundred bucks on each console sold.
Supermax  +   733d ago
It will be 399 and yes ms and sony will both take losses from the launch of there systems its never been about hardware sales software is we're both companies will make there money.

If this is true I wont be buying a nextbox until price drop... I would never rent a system... What happens if you want to sell it or it craps out while on monthly sub?

Both the ps4 and xbox live will have some subscription attatched as it costs to much to keep those services maintained for no cost especially with gaiki.. The details is ms going to have a basic free online and im hearing this may happen and have a paid service with much more of the normal online. Ms live will have a huge overhaul as they know that the competition will demand it if its going to pay. It will have to be overly better then psn or match it features and prices as I dont think they will hook gamers with paid online again but what will keep them is a matched service and a carry over of your current game score and achievements and paid for content allready on the network. It will be revealed soon enough what the diffrences are but if they are close then I will pick them both up like I have this current gen. Its going to be fun to watch the unvelis.

15 dollars a month for Live??!!
Mkai28  +   732d ago
Yeah I know, that's $180 a year..
NoobJobz  +   732d ago
No way they would double the price of Live. They would have to be crazy to do so. With all the complaints of $5-$8 a month, $15 would start a riot.
