Media blitz to commence after summer; string of major releases planned for 2013
Getting it out before Xmas would be wise.
This will help, but no 1 game can save a console. They are gonna have to find a way to get more games out for the system. New mario in october is great but what about the months between now and then?
Halo would like a word with you
Saying Halo saved Xbox would be like saying Gran Turismo saved PS3. Just because its the highest selling exclusive -which Halo isn't- doesn't mean there isn't other high selling exclusives regardless of how tired the franchise is.
@jaqen halo alone didnt save the xbox, in order for MS to to expand their userbase they had to get a bunch of other games (Mass effect, bioshock, etc....). Halo helps but there is no such thing as a SINGLE game that can support a platform.
I believe Jaqen is referring to the original Xbox and while I wouldn't call 30m consoles a save, I do believe Halo went a long way torwards the success of the 360.
Mario kart is also coming this year.
Halo did save the first Xbox, it is the one game that made people believe it was worth buying. It was the sole reason for about 20 Xboxs to be sold in my hometown, which is about everyone who bought one...it's a very small town. Then you got sucked in by games like KOTOR 1/2 and Crimson Skies...which we are still waiting for new entries unfortunately.
You could have fooled me with the way Sony fans were talking about Soul Sacrifice. Of course, the Wii U doesn't need saving. The situation is over exaggerated by the gaming media. The are lower than expected but not failing. It's still making Nintendo a profit overall as the last profit report showed. It will have many games by the end of the year. When the games come, the sales will spike. That is all there is to it.
Halo and Mario 64 sold consoles. A new 3D Mario game will also help sell the Wii U. I wouldn't be surprised if they are indeed holding titles back knowing the new hardware from Sony and Microsoft are coming.
But 3D Mario doesn't sell systems. Other than Mario 64, can anyone point out a Nintendo system that was successful because of 3D Mario? Anyone want to help me out here, or does clicking "Disagree" magically make the WiiU sell better? @ below 3DS springs to mind? You mean the worst-selling Nintendo handheld until it got a price drop and a flood of games? No. I'm sorry. 3D Mario doesn't sell systems. It hasn't since the N64.
3ds springs to mind. Sure it wasnt the only factor, there was mariokart and a price drop. Wii U will have 3d mario, pikmin, mario kart, windwaker and potentially a price cut. Not to mention a good number of other exclusives which could be out by christmas, and all aimed at a diverse market eg bayonetta, yarn yoshi and wii fit. Could be an interesting period for Nintendo.
lol what a cliche!
Its disappointing how much Nintendo NEED Mario games to help push their new console. I would have guessed new gen, new focus but obviously Super Mario Galaxy 3, Mario Kart U, Mario Party 10 and the already released New Super Mario Brothers U will be Nintendo's way forward.
Yeah that's what i thought when I read that... it's like a crutch they always fall back on or run to when things are going bad... but it's getting tired...
God forbid a company would need the help of the best selling and most famous franchise to sell a console. Especially since no one ever asks for these games as well as new Zelda, Uncharted, Halo, or Gran Turismo games. /s
NINTENDO BE PRAISED!!!!
You know I find it kind of sad that nintendo always has to rely on 2 games(Mario&zelda) to get them out of trouble,i think this is why they dont try to make new ips, which they need.
The second half of 2013 looks very promising for Wii U. Bring on the games!
I've had my fill of 3D Mario's. Hell the best one is still Mario 64. 3-D Mario has never been a huge hardware seller, but it is the game Miyamoto likes to make the most. Imagine a 2D Mario with the resources given to it comparable to the 3D Marios. Wii U probably wouldn't be in such dire straits if Nintendo had done this. But alas another 3D Mario, will he have a water gun this time? I hate to say it but 3D Mario is getting tired. After Galaxy 1, which had neat play mechanics (though absolutely no coherence as far as Mario Mythos goes) I'm so over 3-D Mario. I'm hoping for a REAL 2D Mario with actual effort. Like Mario Bros 3. The Pinnacle of Mario Bros.
Bundle this game with the Basic model for $330, Watch those sales go way the hell up lol.
This would indeed be a smart business move for Ninty.
AND Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Zelda Wind Waker plus new Zelda Game (rumored) Yes those will help greatly! PLUS more 3rd party support! Splinter Cell Black List, AC Black Flag, Batman Origins, Lego Marvels Avengers, Watch_Dogs, CoD Ghosts, plus more games YET to be announced.
This is just common sense here ppl..Wii U is going to be On Fire for the second half of 2013
Ok so lets see, in the past 17 years there have been 4 console 3d Mario games and two handheld including the sm64 remake. All of them rated in the 90's on meta critic with both Mario galaxy 1 and 2 sitting at a lofty 97.These are powerhouse games and its hilarious to me that people are saying the series is tired and milked. Maybe when you consider the sports titles and party titles but when looking at straight up 3d mario platforming, there really hasn't been that many and there has really been no drop in quality at all.Nintendo has created hit after hit and each iteration has brought something new to the table.
Every single console maker has games that they milk, or make more often than any other, so pointing the finger at any 1 company in particular doesn't work.
I hope it is not rushed. Well, I wish Nintendo good luck with it, whatever the 3D Mario is
I doubt that it will be. Iwata just did an interview about why Pikmin was held back and they have reaffirmed that they won't release a game until it is time. If in October the game is not up to Standard- rest assured that they will detain it.
The strategy should not be the same of that of the 3DS (completely different market dominated by Sony/Microsoft unlike the handheld one). Nintendo should be funding upcoming multiplats.
