Why Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon’s compact open world is so effective

"To make a bit of a literary comparison, Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon has the open world equivalent of a short story or novella. It’s still ‘open’ in all the ways that matter; you can (after a linear intro) go wherever you please, tackle side-quests and garrison posts in whichever order and whatever style you choose, and generally cause unchecked mayhem. But the more focused nature of the world means that it, and the over-the-top story, don’t outstay their welcome."

Totally agree with this article. I personally felt that the orginal islands in Far Cry 3 were a bit to big considering the meaningful stuff boiled down to hunting quests, stronghold mission,(slightly unnecessary) tower puzzles and (unrealized)racing. Blood Dragon's super-stylistic, compact island gets more mileage out of it's island than Rook Island because everything's in reach and it's far more fun to tear out and explore with Rex than with Jason.

Also god damn, that soundtrack is the best thing this side of hotline miami ( a massive accomplishment).

I like the overall feel of this standalone.. the map and environment in my view is very well proportioned.

nothing is really too far away.. and the speed of rex makes getting around quicker.. I love jumping off of shit.. He doesn't get hurt

Man, I'm still waiting on my code that AMD is supposed to give me, should be in today. I've been waiting so long for a game like this. Now that I hear so much positive feedback, I'm very excited!
