Final Fantasy XIV Players Will Be Able to Modify Their Characters in A Realm Reborn, Including Names

Final Fantasy XIV players have been wondering about what specific features of their old characters they’ll be able to change with the release of A Realm Reborn, especially considering that there will be three new combinations between race and gender available (male miquo’te, female roegadyn and female highlander).

Today they finally got confirmation of the best case scenario. (Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, PC, PS3)

Okay I can dig it, JRPGs adapting..adding customization like western rpgs.

They are not talking about new customization features, they are talking about making changes to already existent characters because of the "second" release of the game.

I rather not JRPGs turn into WRPGs. That's what they have been trying and failing miserably.

We need diversified genres, we dont need jrpgs to become wrpgs, or wrpgs to become jrpgs.

Just like we dont need every game becomes a cinematic game, or a multiplayer game. Variety needs to stick around

Nooo of course not, neither do I, I'm just saying certain elements especially customization is welcome in any game imo. I like to have that feel it's got a bit of me in it. Know what I'm saying?

Oh I see what you mean. Imo customization belong in some game, but not others.

For example, Mass Effect makes sense, so does Skyrim, etc etc. You make decisions and how you want to play. (Oh and customization obviously makes sense in MMOs).

But when you are playing a story driven game like final fantasy, legend of zelda, lost odyssey and such customization isn't needed. I feel that it gives the characters a personality, a face, everyone can put together.

Persona and SMT games allows you to name your MC and choose their dialogue choices and they easily beat any JRPG out there with preset MCs. Besides JRPGs need to be actually ROLE playing games again , ToX 2 made one step already now its FF turn.

@Kratoscar

Silent protagonists are pretty awesome. My fav. one is easily Dragon Quest 8. And honestly, I never cared for customization in persona (of the MC that is). I was ok w/ the pre-set male/female.

I'm glad to hear I can change my characters name. After investing hundreds and hundreds of hours into my character and considering everyone will have to remake or redesign there alt it's nice to know I'm not locked to my current name if I decide to go with a new race or sex. I like my original character but who knows with all the new options what creativity may inspire.

The male miquo'te look pretty cool I'm tempted to go with that but after playing 7 years as a rolly-Polly tarutaru on FFXI I know it's a decision to not take lightly. I might just stick with my cat girl mainly because I like their emotes and I'm just used to my current looks and from the beta so far I can recreate my cat 100%.

I used to play a TaruTaru as well, but I didn't like how small the armor was on them. The details weren't as clear as it was on Galka or Elveen.

Message me when you choose a server. I am looking for people to play with!

I'll definitely hit you up around launch, I got around 8-10 buddies looking to get on the same server and hit the floor running with all the new content and hopefully have a lot of fun.
