'Destiny' will have a monetization model according to an Activsion resume

XMNR: Internet super sleuth Superannuation scooped an intriguing detail about Bungie's upcoming online sci-fi shooter, Destiny, on Monday. An Activision employee's resume indicates that the publisher is looking at some sort of monetization model for the PS4, PS3, Xbox 360 and next-gen Xbox game. (Destiny, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One)

Indeed. No one saw that coming, really.

Yea and until everyone quits feeding the demon it will only grow stronger!

This game had so much potential, I despise pay to win games.
Killzone 4 for me =)
The_Infected  +   605d ago
Agreed! I wanted to play Destiny but screw anything Activi$ion! KZ4 for me also:)
Septic  +   605d ago
How do you know this is a pay to win model? It could merely be for cosmetic upgrades which is something far more likely.
RioKing  +   605d ago
Agreed, it's still too early to make that decision for me. I'll probably end up getting both games, lol
Blackdeath_663  +   605d ago
yeah, true activision has done a bit of this and a bit of that i actually am quite optimistic that they won't completely screw it up.

@RTherebel

You didn't even read the article and instead revered to a child-like state and proceeded to fist pound the ground while crying, it's not fair!

It's about paying for cosmetic costumes with no impact on gameplay. Nothing to do at all with pay to win.

That is expected from Activision. It's a MMO RpG that will be very addictive that will keep gamers asking for more and more.

This game will destroy Halo and 343 industry's. Its time that Bungie teaches them a lesson.

Oh and I can't wait to see the PS4 version and the exclusive content.

It's time Bungie teaches 343 a lesson? For what? Making a great Halo game?

i know i won't be liked for saying this but are they forcing any of us to buy anything? seriously Mobile gaming have been making a lot of money with this model so why can't the console gamers including myself accept this as a feature for those who want an easy button or don't have time to grind

my play through of Dead space 3 wasn't less fun because there was an option to buy stuff i could get in game while playing for free

maybe i am missing something but why do so many take this as a huge negative? its not like they are forcing this upon us to beat the game
Flatbattery  +   605d ago
You are right, they are not forcing us to pay, but during the next EA or Activision board meeting I'll bet good money they'll take any acceptance of this model as a complete success and think about the next step to bleed us dry. EA already believe it's universally accepted.

It's fine and dandy for you if you don't mind, but many don't and are well aware that this will only lead to far worse practices. If you like your hobby as it is, then stand up and say so, otherwise it will be a shadow of its former self once the rot of greed permanently sets in.

If you want an 'easy button' then an easy mode makes far more sense than paying for ammo or armor right? Why buy a game for the opportunity to buy stuff to get through the game because your lacking time to put into the game?
weekev15  +   605d ago
I agree that the model is ok if it is done right. I actually dont mind if they charge you for extra levels or new skins that wont give an advantage over others online. What I do object to is paying extra to play the full hame. Or being penalised by having a weaker player online for only paying £50 for the full game.
Lets hope Activision does the right thing. There are plenty other games that I can spend my jard earned cash on if they dont.
ZodTheRipper  +   605d ago
I don't want an "easy button" in multiplayer-only games.
ZodTheRipper  +   605d ago
Oh, this was meant as a reply to showtimefolks' comment of course :)
jeffgoldwin  +   605d ago
How is it an "easy button" when it's only a costume? Maybe it boosts some people confidence, idk. Doubt it.
ZodTheRipper  +   605d ago
I already said that I was referring to showtimefolks' comment which stated:
"seriously Mobile gaming have been making a lot of money with this model so why can't the console gamers including myself accept this as a feature for those who want an easy button or don't have time to grind"

I don't mind Pay2Win in single player or mobile games and I don't mind if it's just costumes or other cosmetic stuff, but Destiny is a MMO that you can also play competitive - if there will be EXP Boosts, purchaseable Equipment or even purchase-only areas then I don't want to be part of it as long as there are alternatives.

Activision always ask for money. I don't know if they are just plain greedy whatsoever..

you have to check who owns Activision Blizzard
Chrono  +   605d ago
Don't blame Activision, blame the idiots that buy and support these stuff. If nobody buys them, companies won't use this model.

Have been doing it with EA ,see no reason why not to continue to do it with Activision or any other publisher, developer that gives me the OPTION to do so. Look forward to it.
Supermax  +   605d ago
I don't mind at all, mounts vehicles pets whatever long as multiplayer is balanced.
KillrateOmega  +   605d ago
Jeez, Calm Down Everyone
The article only implies that costumes and cosmetic upgrades will be monetized, not that you have pay to win.

I don't see how optional payment for character costumes necessitates boycotting the game altogether...
