A group of internet pundits lashed out at Dragon's Crown art style, defining it overdone, dull and a symbol of sexism in the industry. Giuseppe Nelva of DualShockers.com discusses their arguments in this opinion piece.
got it ;)
this why the gaming industry is so backward people like them who chastise the artist creativity we play games we like sexy character i buy every piece of garment for dead or a live girls leave us alone its what we want
Not sure how this can offend people. But those type who are offended by this are offended by everything and they let it be known and are extremely vocal...........about EVERYTHING in life ! The dimensions on these Art drawings / women aren't even realistic. Nobody except dumb old hags complain about this. People get butt Hurt if you don't breathe correctly around them...so yea
Kotaku. You will never find a more wretched hive of whiners and crybaby's. We must be cautious.
Dragon's Crown is one of my most anticipated games this year. And I won't let a crappy site like Kroptaku ruin it.
As a female..
I'm sure you're familiar with rules #30 and #31?
Very familiar. *cocks eyebrow* Your point?
Anyone who as ever played a vanillaware game before understand that certain characters have ample breasts. Queen of the Underworld from Odin Sphere springs to mind and that was on the PS2. Vanillaware has a certain art style it sticks too and personally I think it's so awesome. I am gonna be the Archer anyway so doesn't matter much to me.
Seriously, this whole controversy is nothing more than Kotaku trying to get clicks. If only the female character looked like this than maybe there would be a point. But when all the other characters are equally ridiculous there is no point to the complaint.
The problem is that they got those clicks. Lots of them.
Looks Ok. How It Plays Is More Important.
Notice no one is even looking at the fact that the archer has normal sized breasts? All the people that are complaining can see is the Sorceress and the Amazon. This is Vanillaware's style people.Short skirts, skimpy clothing, big breasts, sexy girls. How they look doesn't affect the game in the least. The Queen of the underworld was no less challenging with a larger breasts. The kitsune girls in Maramusa the the Demon Blade were no less interesting characters because they wore revealing kimonos. The Fairy princess in Odin Sphere was no less endearing because she wore a skirt that only reached a few inches past here waist and you could see her legs.So how about you complainers grow up, stop finding problems with the game and instead think about important things like hoping the game is good rather then what bra size the Sorceress is
Yep. But the first rule of the internet pundit is to ignore every element that doesn't fit his theorem.
Not just internet pundit. It's the same for every single conspiracy theorist. Discard all information that discredits your claim, only believe information that supports it.
I played Grand Knight History. I found characters from GKH are similar to this game. Again they are the same game company duh lol
People(especially so called gaming journalists) need something to cry about each week, and as it turned out dragons crown art was this week. Tune in next week to see what people will be crying about then.
Looking forward to it! >_>
This is a pretty good article. Takes Kotaku to task for all of Jason's grandstanding and self-aggrandizing.
Agreed. The more so-called sexism articles I see, the less respect I'll end up having for the journalists who wrote it especially Western ones, convincing me they really need to get a life and a REAL job.
I am the only heterossexual male here that don´t like to be aroused while playing games...? I mean... great games like SF is almost sure to get "hard" (for me at least). Besides, don´t really wanna my kids (don´t have it yet) making my controller all... sticky.
Oh they mad.
I will say this. Most male characters in Video games at like 6'5" and built like a brick house... They're not the typical American male, which by statistics would be overweight and below 6'0" in height. Where's the outrage? Right, there is none. Let the boobs be. They're not hurting anyone. At least if a woman feels inadequate they can go buy some confidence. I can't buy 5 inches and 150lbs of muscle.
Yeah well they can always argue that those male characters were not meant to be sexually attractive. Let's set the record straight. I'm gay, and burly, muscular virile men in vidja-games do tease my sexuality the same way those big boobs could do to other hetero men. And no, that doesn't make me believe that all men should be built like beef and go shirtless at every single moment of their life, the same way hetero men won't start to think that women should go outside with barely a nipple holding their dress (looking at you, Lulu). And, as goes the saying: Relax, it's just sex godamnit.
There you have it but we live in a society where a 44 kill streak in COD TDM would be applauded but some nice cleavage in your face is outrageous, out of control and otherwise immature. What's the more harmless image: a gun or a nice set of breasts? I'll take #2 please. The world could use more boobs and less guns if you ask me.
im a girl, but to me, the art style is perfectly fine, i really love the fighter's design and specially the monster designs people are just only make things exaggerated specially in games.....
The answer to tits in games.
Whats the big deal about the tits??? Lots of games have girls w huge titties flopping around..
If a guy can dress how he wants, why can't a girl dress the same. More or little clothing theirs little difference, her boobs would be big either way. Maybe I should complain about how some guy has too much muscle showin.
In the end we have some kind of lonely teenager syndrome in this industry, you can have 50 shades books that are perfectly fine with all kind of sexual motives, we have Game of Thrones, Spartacus, etc on TV with naked women and sexual themes and it's perfectly fine, yet here we have a lacklustre sex scene on a game or a woman cartoon with oversized boobs and it's an outrage, yet there's no issue with half naked males everywhere in gaming like Kratos and so on. In the end, we're still unsure of games as full grown adult media, and it shows in this kind of stupid sexual remarks.
Dumb fucks like these hold back creativity in gaming. I just wanna know, whats the deal?? a female, with big tits. God.
I got kicked off Kotaku once, I felt bad about it. But I feel better now. It's a shame that Jotaku can't write great stories like IGN or report news like Siliconera, they just express the pessimistic opinions of video game journalism.
I want boobs!
They said designs looked that were made by a 14 year old boy. Is the other way around actually, if you get embarassed looking at that art, is becuase you have a 14 year old mentality, and blush when you see a pair of beautiful big boobs.
