Should You Buy An Xbox 360 Or PlayStation 3 At This Point?

FleshEatingZipper writes: With new consoles due out by the end of the year, there's a lot of anxiety around spending in upwards of $500 on a current-generation console. It's understandable. I was at the center of it all when it happened in 2001 and again in 2006, back when I worked retail, so I get the question a lot. People feel like they're regretting a great experience by investing now instead of a year from now. Here's a hint: you're not.

I think this is a question that requires a few follow up questions before it can be answered:

1)whats your budget?
2)Are you replacing an older current gen unit?
3)Is this your first console?
4)How important is a large game library to you?
5)What kind of gamer are you and what do you play (i.e. casual games, high def games, FPS, platformers... )

There are just a few of what I think are the important questions to ask when considering a current gen system now.

Well I have a PS3 with over 300 games. I will be getting a PS4 day one. I believe the PS4 game line up at launch will be better than the PS3 launch.

so you're telling me you struck it rich and have been playing video games everyday?

Um...buddy....you are living the dream.

There is no question that the PS3 would be the console to buy right now. Get the God of War bundle with 6 games. Spend $50 go get PS+ and get 12 free games, plus other free monthly games. Get the best exclusive games like Uncharted, Infamous, LBP. While you play all those games, wait for great new games like The Last of Us and Beyond.
Oh, and you don't have to pay to play online

JoGam1610d ago

@EDMIX.....LOL, no I didn't strike it rich. I had a PS3 since launch. Day one and been buying games since. I don't trade my games in but collect them. I stopped trading when Gamestop tried to give me 50 cents for one of my games. Wft they was thinking is beyond me.

hesido1610d ago

*Are you prepared to pay for online? If you have that much spare money, would you rather have an instant game collection, or cross-talk with your friends?

It's also a valid question.

'Is this ur first console'

If u never owned a ps3/360 by now, ur wrong.
With a few exceptions like if ur really young and just growing old enough to play and stuff.

k2d1610d ago

...6) Are you buying a next gen console day one? Because there are alot of PS3 exclusives you should play before D-day.

I'm waiting for may 21st before I confirm my decision to either buy the new xbox or just build a new pc and continue gaming on it.

Starbucks_Fan1610d ago

....why not wait for more info about the PS4?

vega2751610d ago

Because I already know enough about the ps4 and for the most part are not interested. I've never liked killzone, I dont like infamous or the game by cerny. And the rest are multiplatform so they will be on the new xbox or pc.

And yes I've played killzone and infamous to know I dont like either game.

StrongMan1611d ago

PS3, yes because Sony is STILL supporting it with new exclusive IPs. The Last of Us and Beyond: Two Souls are day one purchases for me baby!

hennessey861611d ago

I would say the ps3 is the console to go with for the simple fact that its still being supported with new exclusives.

Anon19741610d ago

And will probably continue to be supported for years to come. If we look at the PS2, for the first few years after the PS3's release, the PS2 was still routinely receiving new games that were making it into the top of the charts. There's no reason to doubt that Sony will still continue to support the PS3 well into the PS4's lifecycle. By contrast, support for the original Xbox was pulled literally overnight when the 360 launched and we've already been witnessing Microsoft's support of the 360 wind down over the past couple of years.

There's still the question of if you're comfortable with being charged extra to pay the games you buy. That's always there. And, with the PS3 you also get the added bonus of a fairly sound Blu-Ray player if you don't already have one. That's certainly a huge plus if you're looking at one console over the other. All that said when it comes to games, at this point either console will deliver. There's no shortage of great titles out there waiting for you no matter which console you pick.

Dlacy13g1610d ago (Edited 1610d ago )

I don't think this is a question of which current gen console to buy but rather a question of should I buy a current gen console or just wait for next gen?

steve30x1610d ago

I want to play Forza horizon but I wont buy an Xbox 360 just for that game because the next console is looming.

Minato-Namikaze1610d ago

Get a ps4 and drive club, lol

steve30x1610d ago

Drive club doesnt look interesting to me "lol" Just because you like a game doesnt mean everybody else does.
