Strange that they didn't offer both the SNES / Genesis cartridges for both games. I mean I am happy they are using the Genesis Aladdin because it's definitely the better game, just a little odd I guess.

retroheadz1645d ago

True, maybe its licensing. Aladdin on the SNES was done by Capcom whereas the Genesis version was done by Sega and Disney.

Neonridr1645d ago

true. But they didn't offer the Lion King on Genesis, which I think was done by the same studio. Perhaps they felt that the Sega version of Aladdin and the SNES version of the Lion King were the definitive versions of each.

Tross1643d ago

Licensing is why we can't have nice things...but it's also why we can have nice things to begin with. It's a necessary evil that has its pros and cons.

Neat. Part of me wishes I still had my Genesis, as that Aladdin cart looks amazing. I'd have to have it, even though I'd still have my original cart. Alas, I parted ways with my Genesis and all my games when I got my PS1 as my mom said I should get rid of old things when I get something new. Fast forward decades later and it seems hoarding things would have been the right way to go in retrospect. At least I can look forward to the re-release of these games on modern systems.

For the price I expected a steelbook and a few other goodies

well clearly Nintendo's decision to remove the ability to use a sword and instead forced Aladdin to throw apples was the dumbest idea ever. This alone tends to be the biggest reason as to why kids sided with the Genesis version (because swords are cool to kids). Much like people preferring the Genesis version of MK1 over the SNES version due to the lack of blood even though the Genesis version was vastly inferior to MK on the SNES in all other categories. The SNES version of Aladdin was more colorful though and I would argue is far more detailed. The Genesis version looks dark and washed out. That's down to personal preference though.

That being said, I have fond memories of both Aladdin and Lion King from both systems.

Nitrowolf21687d ago

As do I. Loved both those games and glad we are getting rereleases

Both great games but the Genesis version is slightly better.

Melankolis1687d ago

Here are my objections :
1. In the movie, Aladdin didn't wield sword, so Genesis version was strayed from the movie
2. Bigger, better, more? The SNES version offered simplicity, that suits the movie's atmosphere
3. Overall the graphic on SNES more colourful and detailed
4. SNES version had more attractive sounds and musics
5. I don't know if the author really don't know about this or the author is being biased. Mikami and Perry praised each other. Here's Perry's quote :
“I'm really biased as we made the original game and got Disney to deliver the animation,” he said. “So I’d flip the quote, ‘If I didn’t actually make the Genesis version I’d probably buy the SNES one.’”

All digital is the future everyone!

DaDrunkenJester1749d ago

Delisted doens't mean it's gone from your harddrive if you already own it. Just means it's not for sale any longer.

Sgt_Slaughter1749d ago

The point is that now you can't stumbling upon a game like this and buy it in the future like you can with a physical game. For anyone who didn't buy it/didn't know it existed, it's gone forever (legally/legitly). That's a huge issue going forward.

badz1491749d ago

I didn't know that these games are available on PC?! are these native PC ports or running on emulators? if this is true, I'm missing out. damn...

spicelicka1749d ago

Yes but if it's a DRM locked game you can't share or re-sell it like you could with physical, so anyone wants it in the future can't get unless another source has it.

darthv721749d ago

Exactly. this sort of thing happens to all media formats. Hell... I'd love to buy a copy of Kiss meets the Phantom (as I had it on VHS years ago but lost it). I cant because it is out of print and there is no DVD copy available to buy.

People who think it sucks for games don't know the struggle for other formats as well. Delisting is the same as out of print. It happens.
