In our modern, workaday world, where big budget RPGs like Skyrim and Diablo III dominate the gaming landscape, it’s easy to forget that the forebears of the RPG genre came not from computers or consoles, but tabletop gaming. Miniatures, dice-throwing, and hours upon hours of pretending to be a dwarf might seem a quaint anachronism to today’s gamer, but back then some dice and a healthy imagination was all anyone had. A throwback to these humblest of beginnings, Dark Quest brings the spirit of classic dungeon crawling boardgames like TSR’s Dungeon! and Milton Bradley’s HeroQuest to a mobile platform. Indeed, Dark Quest is almost blatantly derivative of the latter for its game mechanics and aesthetic, but this isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
GG3 writes: "Dark Quest’s timely release is highly convenient for those who have been irked by the pricing and problems of Warhammer Quest, Games Workshop’s official board game release. This alternative basically offers the same, in slight condensed format, without hassle or price gouging."

Every Tuesday, there are new games, apps, and updates added to PlayStation Mobile. Dark Quest, a turn-based fantasy RPG, and Zen Accumulator, a soothing puzzler, both launch this week. And there’s an update to Scientific Electronic Calculator.
Touch Arcade: If it's one thing Brain Seal Ltd's Dark-Quest [$0.99 / $0.99 (HD)] is good at, it's staying close to its roots. In fact, some might argue that this old-school turn-based strategy succeeds in that regard a little too well. Still, as a relatively basic TBS Dark-Quest offers an enjoyable experience with plenty of missions, a party combat system, and a few twists to the standard gameplay that will either intrigue or frustrate you.
Thought that image looked familiar, it's a complete rip off of the board game Hero Quest!
