Should God of War be reinvented or retold on the Playstation 4?

The God of War series and Kratos will always be cherished among the Playstation fan base. But at some point, everything must either come to an end or be reborn if it will stave off becoming mundane. The God of War series has had an excellent run. Not a good run or great run. An excellent run. But with the main story now completed, the series is reduced to prequels and side stories. Much like what has happened to Metal Gear (excluding Metal Gear Rising). (God of War, PS4)

I love the franchise but give it a 4 year hiatus focus on the new ip Santa Monica is working on with Stig and Team A. Let Seth Killian reimagine Playstation all stars for PS4. Keep helping indies bring their games to PS4 and Vita.

A 4 year Hiatus is a stretch if you ask me. Though I can see an Uncharted get released before another GoW title.

Maybe they will let Heavenly sword fill its spot. Because i find it very strange that Tameem from Ninja Theory was in the Playstation 4 developer reel video when we all know how how much he has been bashing the sales of Heavenly sword and also blaming Sony for it. So maybe a Heavenly Sword 2 by NT or Santa Monica themselves, in anticipation for the movie.

But who know whats they will do i just think Sony is smart enough to give Kratos a little rest, focus on new IP's and bring him back for more slaughter half way into the next gen when the fanbase is established.

Actually I'm in the midst of playing the GoW games (4x HD remastered + GoW 3).
So far I've played it in the following order, 3,1,2, GoS and now at CoO.
After I've finished those I'll get Ascension, though what I noticed by playing these games back to back is that the story is a all over the place.

Not because I didn't go in order, there's a lot of blanks in the story that should be filled.
But man the story is really awesome (I like mythologies a lot).

Ghost of Sparta is definitely my favorite, as I liked a lot of the story elements.

THE WORLD WAS DESTROYED BY THE END OF GOW4
In chaos which Aphrodite - somehow - the only still standing.

Sounds like they've got something to work with to me.

Norse mythology with a new protagonist pleaaaaaaaase! A man wants to clash with Thor and his hammer, Loki and his illusions, and Odin Allfather himself among many more! A man knows SSM would make these moments absolutely mind blowing on PS4!
MysticStrummer  +   736d ago
Indeed. There are many possible pantheons to murder our way through.

No they should make a new ip

A man could go for this too.

Id love a new IP and maybe a come back later down the road on PS4. I dont want GoW to become a mario, halo, CoD. It deserves so much more. Like the Half Life series.

As much as I like GOW, the storyline is pretty much played out and I don't want to see them beat it to death like Final fantasy or something of that nature. Keep the cinematic presention and the gory action and make a new IP. SSM can do some great things and I would like to see what they can do if given a new direction.

new ip or retold with the same gameplay concept just different character and mythos
arbitor365  +   736d ago
why not just follow a different character, or characters, within the God of War universe? you have the entirety of greek mythology at your fingertips. there is an infinite number of possibilities.

also it would be interesting to see it transfer into a new pantheon of gods. like the Norse gods, Egyptian gods, or Roman gods. they could make it work.

Quite honestly a nice reinvention would be great.. make God of War into a more open world GTA/Fallout type game with God of War fighting mechanics.. think this would work well especially since..

**SPOILER**

The world is all typed of fucked up at the end of GOWIII and the GOW Ascension tease
Rhezin  +   736d ago
RPG god of war? F!CK that. That would betray the entire system of how fun it was. No dammit, no MMO, no RPG, no FPS or TPS, no JRPG, none of that crap. HACK N SLASH ONLY OR GTFO

NO REINVENTION NEEDED! Keep kratos where he is. Sony SM should just make a new series, new hero, new setting and time. And a new mythology..

I'm a huge fan of God of War but the series needs a break.
That said i still want to see the movie get made but Santa Monica should focus on a new/other ip... like Warhawk
