Retro Gaming: KING'S FIELD 2

King's Field II is the second game in the King's Field RPG series. Like both its successors and predecessor, the game is played through first person view in a dark and mysterious, medieval fantasy setting.

The game was developed by the Japanese game development company From Software, and released July 21, 1995 in Japan, and December 31, 1995 in the U.S. Since the first King's Field game was never published outside Japan, King's Field II was released as King's Field in the U.S and Europe. It has only been released for the PlayStation console.

lol, I was waiting for him to get killed by that skeleton, after he said it wasn't hard.

biddern14013d ago

Yeah, that skeleton in the chest surprised the hell out of me.

NegativeCreepWA4013d ago

I meant the one that hit you in the back, the moment you open that secret passage, another opens behind you.

I love Kings Field. These games were the spiritual predecessor of the Soul's games (Demon's, Dark).

As good as those games are. I want a sequel to King's Field

SaiyanFury4013d ago

I must agree. To this day I am an ardent fan of this series, and own every game in it as well. The second game (third in Japan) is still my favourite, although God bless Agetec for bringing The Ancient City over here. I would love to see another sequel.

Interesting stuff. Will probably buy this game one day.

I Wish More Games Embraced FromSoft's Approach To Difficulty

Danish from eXputer: "FromSoftware's unique approach to difficulty in their games allows players to customize their own experience, which is really cool."

Einhander197216d ago (Edited 16d ago )

"Souls Like" is a literal genre.

I'd just like to point out that Rise of the Ronin which recently released is in large part a Souls Like as is the upcoming Stellar Blade. And both games have 60 FPS.

ShwaaMan16d ago

More? Like every other game in the last
5 years has “Souls” elements or difficulty. I think we need to pump the brakes a bit Jesus they don’t all the the “grind or die”/“get good” mentality.

exputers15d ago

I would advise reading the article. What you're saying is not the point we tried to make.

GhostScholar15d ago

Yeah let’s have only souls likes 🙄

Is It Time For FromSoftware To Move Beyond The Souls Formula?

Danish from eXputer: "With FromSoftware getting new directors, it might be time for the studio to take a break from its iconic Soulslike games."

isarai33d ago

Already have, Amored Core 🤷‍♂️

blackblades33d ago

That's what I was going to say. Also they good at souls and they usually different in away then each other. The real thing to say is when the industry going to move from souls formula. I see almost every week theres a new souls games announced this week was bleak faith

MrWood32d ago (Edited 32d ago )

Totally disagree. There are not enough souls likes, and good ones at that! Rarely are they announced… Bleak Faith for example is an old game. I literally bought and beat that game about a year ago. It’s rouguelites and metroidvanias that are announced weekly.

blackblades31d ago

@MrWood
This a lot of souls games out as I said they are announced about every week. Matter fact I just heard about another moments of writing this.

Jingsing32d ago

They make Armored Core like once in a blue moon.

GoodGuy0933d ago (Edited 33d ago )

Honestly I want more lol. Plenty of different settings, time periods, fantasies, and myths they can still use.

Nacho_Z32d ago

Agreed stick with what they do best just get creative with it. Who wouldn't want another game like Elden Ring but in a fresh setting.

thorstein33d ago

Armored Core and Elden Ring are both different than the Souls formula.

Souls formula: You Will Die. Gothic. Not open world. Punishing difficulty. The feeling that doing is completely on the player.

dxmol4_32d ago

From software can make as many souls games they want. It's the rest of the industry that needs to stop copying them.

Angyobangyo32d ago

There are have been great souls-like games from other developers. I say if another developer can put their own spin on the genre then I don't see the problem. I don't get the whole defensive gatekeeping. Nioh, Lies of P and Remanent are great games in that genre.
