Editorial - Fez, gamers, and entitlement

Many gamers were upset that the Fez preorder on Steam was not more than 10%. Why do gamers feel entitled to more than they get? (EA, PC, PS3, Steam, Wii, Xbox 360)

Gamers can be such little entitled whiners. I mean, some points I get but we complain about EVERYTHING!

Wow, can't believe people are fighting over this. Really a sad-state in the DLC/content community.

Lets face it, in this day and age where any moron can put his opinion up on the internet like it matters too many of these issues get brought to the front page. Realistically most of the people making these complaints are either too young and inexperienced or just plain too stupid to know how businesses are run. So in turn they whine about whatever they feel overly justified about on an internet forum or twitter. Then a developer reads all these entitled immature comments and become enraged themselves and fire back at the consumer out of spite or anger just exhaserbating the issue.

Lets use fez as an example since the author did. People claim only a dollar off is "pretetious" and the dev just gives crappy comments back in return to this criticism. What should be done from the dev is squash this kind of talk instead of flaming the fire. 10% is a good dicount, the fact that it only comes out to a dollar is because iys a ten dollar game. Would you complain about 6 bucks off a 60 dollar game? When you figure in development costs and other overhead for the developer they prob only take home 20% or less, in this case he"s prob cutting his profits nearly in half to give people who preordered a deal.

In todays market of skyrocketing production costs and low profit margins the consumer should feel lucky they get discounts at all, especially a 10 dollar game. Devs need to put aside personal feelings, swallow thier pride for just a minute and explain things to the consumer so people understand why things are the way they are. Unfortunatly ignorant consumers think they know it all because they hear things like "the customer is always right" but realistically they are usually wrong. Since the internet brings developer and consumer ever closer all the time we all need to communicate better instead of just acting entitled right back at some whiny entitled gamer.
