Nintendo Looking into NFC Payments for Wii U

A push for a strong digital business

by Jayden Williams

During its financial results briefing to investors today Nintendo have outlined early plans to implement small NFC payments into future Wii U software.

‘NFC’ refers to Near Field Communication, a technology that’s been worked into the Wii U GamePad. Gamers who have played Skylanders or read about Pokémon Smash U will be familiar with the potential of NFC.

If this becomes reality Wii U users could simply ‘touch’ a smart card onto their controller when promoted by the console and funds will automatically transfer to complete a transaction. (Nintendo, Wii U)
