I'm surprised there is only 1 Zelda game on the list and Metroid didn't even make it
Tewi-Inaba  +   858d ago
Contrary to popular belief LoZ isn't actually THAT huge in japan, it is everywhere else though.
atleast not compared to mario, and these days Animal Crossing, hell AC is 4th on 3DS list and it's only out on Japan.

Shouldn't Nintendo be making billions of dollars of profit with success like this? I haven't been following the finances of Nintendo but one would think that on a monetary level Nintendo is on a whole new level compared to Sony and MS.
deafdani  +   858d ago
Metroid isn't really a system seller. None of the Metroid games have ever sold that well, despite their popularity in the western audience.

Samus games rarely sell big-

I think this is why they keep searching for ways to change-up the formula.

Everyone (critics and fans) knows that Samus has potential and is beloved by many but Nintendo just hasn't found a way to translate that love into Mulit-Million sells.

RETRO might be working on that right now, if not I hope that they consider working a Collaboration with a company that has done a great FPS.

I know this is not exactly what we all want, since Prime was a FPA, but I think one game with a stronger FPS focus wouldn't be horrible for the franchise.

This way more success could spin-off more games 2D and 3D (Primes and OM's).

For Samus' 1st HD, I think they need to go more "cORE" friendly with a Nintendo Twist of Course.

Super Mario 64 DS....WOW!!!!!!!!!! Sold just as much as N64 version!!!!
millzy102  +   857d ago
it was probably the same people who brought them, myself included. just goes to show nintendo is not to be messed with and this is the reason why they won't go 3rd party. no need with numbers other companies could dream of.

Wow, those are impressive numbers.

Wasn't nintendo land and wii sports bundled with the consoles itself? Wii sports is the highest because that was bundled with the with and that thing sold like crazy so the game did too.
3-4-5  +   857d ago
True, but Wii Sports Resort selling 30 million copies shows just how much people actually did like the first game.

Some of those were bundled as well, but a decent amount are single sales.
--Onilink--  +   857d ago
Not in japan. There it was sold at retail. And Nintendoland is obly sold with the premiuns and i think its not bundled at all in japan like wii sports
BeZdaBest  +   857d ago
this is why you cant count nintendo out never..... the games still sell like crack...

nintendoomed???? lol i beg a differ...
izumo_lee  +   857d ago
There is no doubting Nintendo 1st party games but it is kinda disappointing that there are barely any 3rd party games on that list.

34million mariokart wii sales, wiifit 20million,and people say these games WON'T move systems?
Dj7FairyTail  +   857d ago
wait til Mario Kart Wii U comes this holiday that will move 5 million system in one month lol
thezeldadoth  +   858d ago
This is what people here just can't grasp. Nintendo games are cheaper to make, and sell way more than any other franchise from any other system. People keep claiming doom for Nintendo, when they are better off than any other system. The Wii, DS, and 3DS are outselling competition, and the games are selling huge amounts.

Even if WiiU sells "poorly" Nintendo could afford low console sales for multiple generations. The WiiU isn't even doing terribly, just about the same as the other consoles when they came out.

And people say Nintendo is doomed.
zalanis  +   858d ago
I was just about.to say the same thing. Mario kart wii sells 34 mill but costs a fraction of what it cost sony to make the ever popular granturismo. Ppl wont understand why nintendo is succesful while all over the net we keep hearing of companies either closing down or revising their studios to turn a prophet (eg. SquareEnix stating tomb raider at 3 million+ isnt considered succesfull
Realplaya  +   857d ago
The crazy part is those games sold without DLC can you imagine if they had that option OMG.

Also Mario Wii U sold 2.15 million on a system that has only sold 3.45 million.

Developement cost and budget are low since the game is designed in house.

People to Nintendo: You milk your franchises.

Nintendo's response: That's cool let me get some cookies with that milk.

The cool thing about nintendo is that they are the only company left that puts out finished games. No need for DLC unless they start on it after the game is done.
Kos-Mos  +   857d ago
*Love Nintendo*
deafdani  +   857d ago
To the people saying that Mario Bros U didn't do anything to sell the system: according to IGN, Mario Bros U has sold 2.15 million copies already, and the Wii U has sold 3.45 million units worlwide so far.

Compare the ratio. That means that roughly 2 out of each 3 Wii U owners have Super Mario Bros U. Basically, a 66% adoption rate.

So, yeah. This probably means that, without Mario Bros U at launch, the Wii U probably would've sold LESS.
Jadedz  +   857d ago
This basically proves Nintendo's non-reliance on third party titles (I'm not saying they don't need 3rd party games, it's just that they don't rely on them as much as the competition).

Etseix  +   857d ago
most "stellars" third party games didn't came to the wii, only ps3 and xbox. It's not a matter of accept that reliance or not, i bet Nintendo would've be happy if in the past, all stellars third party games where also announced to the wii, but they didn't.
jagstatboy  +   857d ago
I was surprised to not see Super Mario Galaxy 2 on the Wii list.
Amigaengine  +   857d ago
Yeah it "only" sold 7-8 million lol
swice  +   857d ago
Those numbers are getting smaller every gen, except for the Wii, which completely destroyed
scissor_runner  +   857d ago
You know with numbers like that nintendo is going to have a rough time when the other two consoles release. I mean they got way bigger specs lol. I mean arnt they trying make up for the fact they Sony and ms just don't make games as good as Nintendo.

People are not loyal to Nintendo they are loyal to enjoying video games, not social media, movies or cut scenes. We don't see Mario we see the game play. They could just call it Nintendo karting, golf, 2d side scroller lol we would still play it though. It is so sad that this is ignored or argued over when game implies playing with rather than pressing play a watching.

Just wait till mario kart U...Wii U will be selling like hotcakes.
