Gobbling up competition - Video game industry seeing multiple acquisitions

Last month, video game giant Electronic Arts announced a bid for struggling rival Take-Two Interactive, owner of the Rockstar San Diego studio and publisher of the notorious Grand Theft Auto games.

The buyout attempt came a month after Agoura Hills game publisher THQ snatched up studio Big Huge Games.

And that came on the heels of the December merger of Activision, publisher of the hit Guitar Hero, and Vivendi Games, which owns the dominant online multiplayer game, World of Warcraft.

Not since Pac-Man was launched nearly 30 years ago has so much gobbling gone on in the video game industry.
