In game xmb months away

PSM3 magazine's Insider column has a slightly worrying little rumour in it this month - in game XMB is still a fair way off. Here's a rundown of this months whisperings...

Hmmm, you may be right, but this feature should have been available at launch, hence they would not need a patch for everygame. There are reasons why it is taking this long, but it still frustrates a lot of PS3 owners.

I don't think in-game xmb would require a patch for each game...a firmware update yes, but not a patch for each individual game that has comes out. It's all about stablizing the PS3 so it can run the game while opening other things on the xmb. Sony doesn't want the games crashing while everyone is trying to play their own music, looking on the internet, and audio chatting with their friends at the same time.

There is absolutely, positively not a patch required for each game. Apparently, you haven't the foggiest idea how an operating system layer works.

Beyond that basic absurd misconception, do you somehow think Sony gets the _code_ for all the games we submit? Of course not...apparently in your world, Sony is making all publishers re-submit binaries for their games just so they can have an XMB in-game.

Keep your damn mouth shut unless you have at least some idea what you are talking about.

When Sony gave back ram to developers, 0 games had to be patched.

Besides that the in-game XMB feature is going to be used by using the reserved ram that developers CANNOT touch.

The thing that kind of cracks me up about this story is that we are pretty certain (with good reason) that in-game XMB and Home will be "launching" at the same time. If this is true than we can also assume that we wouldn't be seeing in-game XMB until after the open beta for Home is completed. The open beta will start soon (assumed with more of that "good reason") and that will take a few MONTHS before it's completed and Home is actually released. I'm putting my money on June/July...

More urgent trought, make mute option a standard in online games with headset support. I don't want to chat or listen other music that not the game's one while playing ("sound" is something devs care fore, cutting it out is cut some of the experience), but those noob kids, haters, music listeners, foreigns in my brazillian room speaking in english... That is a problem.

Everything that comes out sucks at first, its been like that since the dawn of time. Also,, in game xmb isnt that important,, but it is a nice luxury to have. Let them take the time to enhance our almost perfect video gaming experiance on the best console ever made by mankind.

Wrong, Home will come around the launch of Little Big planet following E3. Around August/September.

Socom Confrontation moved to the back burners and is going through beta testing. Due to the release schedule of some big hits during the summer,
Prolouge/Warhawk expansion - april, ??? May (Sony gamer day, being planned and is actually going to occupy most of the staff that do the PSN updates/blog) and some japanese PSN titles being "retrofitted" for the North American audience.

Wipeout HD might squeak out in May, but is set for June at the latest with MGO, metal gear online purchasable content. July will have Socom confronation, Home Beta (public, supposingly) and unfortunatly a ton of stupid e3 video will be posted.

Home will not come out until August unfortunately and anyone waiting for a Spring release, you are unfortunate out of luck. You guys will have a Killzone 2 demo atleast. I also heard alittle fairy about there being a madden 09 demo in July. (Why Bother EA?)

The good news:

In game communication is coming out around E3. BUT just that. No cross game voice communication or Jukebox option, just text messaging. O well. More Audio visualizations coming as well.

How about you just buy a 360 and enjoy Dead Rising and DR 2 on the platform that they were designed for. If anything be lucky you got Lost Planet a year later.. lol

actually, the XMB is a GUI used in Playstation products- the term "ingame XMB" therefore refers to the use of this playstation-exclusive GUI whilst playing a game

Access to the dash is done both online and offline. This is not part of Xbox Live, it's a feature of the user interface. That is how you get messages online, offline and while watching movies. It also comes at no charge and standard in all games.

Sony has never said you will get full access to the XMB while in game those who think your getting everything are setting them self's up to be disappointed & these people will be the ones complaining when they release "IN GAME MESSAGING".

A Sony rep said that "IN GAME MESSAGING" will be coming in summer, no mention of other options!

This happened with the 2.0 firmware update everyone believed the rumors & then complained when Sony didn't deliver but Sony never announced anything.

Unless it comes from direct from the source take it with a grain of salt.
