The Wiire: Super Smash Bros. Brawl Review

The Wiire writes: "Much needs to be taken into account for the final grade of Super Smash Bros. Brawl. While Peach players seem to be unhappy with the character's limited jumping ability and some are bothered by the new aerial evasion, these same players are finding the new characters to be even more satisfying than the old Peach. There are enough new items and modes for gamers to still want to play this game on an almost daily basis, and there's certainly more customization than ever before.

The graphics are beautiful, the audio is clear, the online system is one of the best on the Wii in over a year and a half, the stages are varied, the mini-game experiences are time-consuming, the trophies are endless, the game is much more balanced and the new items are a blast. The Smash Balls are a game of catch, but can be turned off if there's any issues of fairness. What more could you want?"

My buddy is a massive SSB fan and loves a good game of 4 person fights. He played the import not long ago and said he wasen't too thrilled. I haven't played it myself.. but for him to say that despite how he feels about the original is just crazy.

yes it is true it feels to different
i like melee fast paced fighting more
the article says "the online system is one of the best on the Wii in over a year and a half" so how come i still experience lag, i didnt have this lag when mario strikers came out

Hardcore fighting gamers have made this thier game until the rest of the fighters drop this year. I have and love it. NO LAG, and the multitude of options are dazzling. Also, this has ONE OF THE GREATEST SOUNDTRACKS OF ALL TIME, imho.

Any true gamer needs this.

I really like the game, Ive been a fan of the series since the original. There are minor complaints here and there, but overall I enjoy it a lot. It feels like some of the parts are made easier then melee. Like catching items and everything. It didnt take me any time to get sucked into this game but I understand the complaints its slower then melee. I also like/dont like some of the character changes. I like that sheik isnt as crazy she was in melee. I hate marios water pump but then I never liked mario. Baiscly little things like that.

I do like the game and will be completely absorbed into it. The problem is final smashes casue a lot of problems because the more elite players I play with hate them because they say it takes the skill. The more casual players enjoy them because it makes it more varied and entertaing. I jsut enjoy the ability to turn them on and off. Because its boring if the same guy wins every fxcking match.

There should have been at least one Mick Gordon Killer Instinct theme on here.

Rebel_Scum670d ago

Should be some tunes from the first Mortal Kombat in any list tbh.

I really like the use of Mozart’s Dies Irae in Wolfgang Krausers stage in Fatal Fury 2.

Volcanic rim for Street Fighter 4 is probably my favorite stage theme

Having to do a thing three times would make my list as #1

Jeriphro855d ago

What do you mean? Like doing the same task three times in a row?

BrainSyphoned855d ago (Edited 855d ago )

Ya, find three items, kill three mini bosses, go to three dungeons. Things of three is a tired video game sweet spot number.

For me, it's collect-a-thons. They weren't fun in Donkey Kong or Banjo and Kazooie and they still aren't fun now. Why create these wonderfully oversized, detailed worlds if you are going to just supplement gameplay with ambiguous item fetch-quests.

There are exceptions, of course, But by and large, it just shows laziness on the part of the developer.
Good article, by the way!

Jeriphro855d ago

Yeah. It is funny some of the design decisions made by developers. Another one that irks me is unskippable cutscenes, especially after you die after the cutscene and are forced to rewatch the unskippable cutscene AGAIN. I mean, who thinks that a great idea?! haha

jambola855d ago

how about not allowing cutscene skipping
that's flat out inexcusable in any game in the last 10 years
