Nintendo: Wii U Zelda will be 'an entirely new take on Zelda'

Nintendo stated recently that the first original Zelda game for Wii U will be an 'entirely new take' on the series, especially when compared to Wind Waker. (Nintendo, The Legend of Zelda, The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Wii U)

Nintendo talking about the Wii U Zelda just before E3? My senses are tingling...

Windwaker HD screenshots look great but I just hope they make the other Wii U Zelda look like the E3 2011 tech demo

I hate the obsession with "realistic" graphics in the industry today. I would rather they do something creative again.

I'll take Wind Waker graphics over Twilight Princess graphics any day of the week.

We have all of this power, and instead of using it to create new worlds the likes of which we have never seen before, people want to see stuff that looks like what people see everyday. I just don't get it.

Doing the same thing that they've already done isn't my definition of creative.

For Nintendo that tech demo was creative, considering the art style of most of their games.
Shok  +   444d ago
That artsytle wasn't too realistic though. I think the tech demo was the PERFECT blend between realistic and whimsical.

I would love for them to go with that style.

@richierich Agreed

I also hope Nintendo go with the tech demo route it would only be fitting on the Wii U as it could show off what the hardware is capable of. They could reach out to a larger audience if they do it that way oh and ignore the guy above me. ;)

So...an open world Zelda? And by open world I mean GTA style, no loading screens...unless were heading inside a cave, dungeon, castle or house.

I mean an open world Zelda or Mario game can be done, if GTA, Just Cause, Saints Row can be done on current gen consoles then I'm sure this can be done on Nintendos next gen hardware

The type of open world experience you just describe is exactly how every zelda is already. If anything, the worlds lack interactivity and even more stuff to do, but they are already pretty open and with pretty much non existant loading times

Ha

Zelda Skyward Sword was NOT open world like....you hardly had any freedom in the game. It was repetitive

I don't own a Wii U, but I'm interested to see what the new Zelda will be like if this is the case. Shoot, it might even push me to buy a Wii U if it looks really promising.
mrbojingles  +   444d ago
By the time Zelda finally lands on Wii U who knows how low the price could be. Heck, the Wii dropped from $250 to $150 in the time it took Skyward Sword to come out. Maybe the Wii U will be $150-$200 for you then. Like always, its best to wait.

Skyward Sword was released in the Wii's final year of support. That's a poor comparison.

I hope it'll have a style similar to Majora's Mask. I enjoyed how disturbing that game got compared to Ocarina.

Oh yeah! My favorite video game. Maybe a mmorpg?
Dark5tar1  +   444d ago
A LoZ MMORPG would sound amazing.

I know I'm going to get tons of disagrees for this, but I REALLY hope that the new Zelda with use Wii motion plus again.
mrbojingles  +   444d ago
My only gripe with Skyward Sword was the motions in the final boss battle. I hated holding the stupid controller above my head. Maybe I was doing it wrong, but I'd hope they'd have both gamepad/motion options. I really wanna see how they could innovate with the game pad too.

@ stragomccloud

I have the exact thought since I played the excellent Skyward Sword, although I am confident that Nintendo will use the gamepad in a revolutionary way. Could we ask for both methods of control since Wii U is controller neutral, or is that too much to ask? or is it even possible?

It surely could be an option I suppose.
stragomccloud  +   444d ago
Indeed. An option for both would probably be best.

I would personally like to see them remake the original Zelda for the WiiU and reboot the series, maybe start another timeline. But I also think that Nintendo needs to give Zelda the anime style for the next game. Most anime can go from being light hearted at times to being very serious and dark without changing its presentation at all! The images below are what I think Link and Zelda character models should look like with some variations here and there...

Didn't they say the same thing with Skyward Sword?
linkenski  +   443d ago
Back then, they said they "freshened things up". Now they are saying that it'll be something we haven't seen before :S
kagamer79  +   444d ago
It may be wishful thinking but id love a zelda with some quality voice acting and more interaction amongst the people and enviorment. Make it kinda like a zelda version of skyrim and that would kick ass to me.

I think they are talking gameplay and world.

I expect Zelda WiiU will utitlize all of the HD bells and whistles mostly because this will be some of the Nintendo's staffs first time working with HD.

I am sure that Nintendo is going to use this as a training experience and they will try every bell and whistle just so that they can have the training experience for the future.
Plus, they need are fully aware of the need to turn ALL heads even the "cORE"...

Personally, SS was the perfect mix of WW and TP. I am also certain that I will play it no matter what it looks like because Zelda games in ALL forms have good gameplay.
linkenski  +   443d ago
It'll probably not be a third-person adventure title anymore :(
CouldHaveYelledUiiW  +   443d ago
You might be right.
OoT was 1st tried in 1st Person.

I really don't want that- but then again one of my favorite Zelda games is Zelda 2 (the Zelda Black Sheep).

I am sure whatever they do will be great- It would be weird though.
