Sony and PlayStation had an untouchable empire in gaming until the PS3 fell during its launch. What rose up from those ashes is what made the PS3 a gaming phoenix.
This industry is the GAMING industry, the other companies seem to be forgetting that. Fads are fads, apps are apps, but gaming and games is what this industry is all about and what will drive it forward into the future. Sony seems to keep this in mind, while trying to run their business.
The turnaround the PS3 got when it had so many disadvantages for the first two or three years on the market is a comeback you see once in a lifetime. Sony also went from having a very bad image to being now one of the most favorable companies in gaming today, it's really something remarkable
it fell? news to me.
My thoughts exactly. As a launch 60G Playstation 3 buyer, I cant recall a single moment where I, personally felt like it was inadequate. I remember coming home with it and playing motorstorm, resistance, oblivian, Madden '07, and Heavenly Sword was great. Also, using the web browser from launch was great. It might of felt that way to some, but not me.
Sony has been through A LOT of downs that maybe no other company, gaming or otherwise, could survive. They made a lot of mistakes, but every year of the PS3's life cycle you could tell that they where slowly making up for those mistakes. I think the PS4 is going to bust out of the gate strong and it will feel like the old glory days of the PS1 and PS2. I can't wait to see what we gamers gain from the early mistakes of the PS3 launch. There's still so much we don't know about the PS4, but just going by what we do know, I might go day one on this launch. That would be a first for me.
Nice read, i remember how sad and disappointed i was back in 2006-2007 y. when all around gaming sites bashed console. I couldn't believe that PlayStation brand had such hate back then. Still, i purchased my 40gig fat ps3 , with MGS4 and Half life 2: Orange box and loved to play those games. But such anouncments, as Final Fantasy game series going to xbox360, was really painful news,,, Glad things changed, sony did well, learnig from mistakes, and recovering PlayStation name.
An author acts towards the end like the gen is over. A man would argue he needs to remember to keep counting PS3 legacy sales before declaring a winner of the gen (sales wise not profit wise). PS3 should be able to reach 105m which could put it over the Wii.
Yeah all those PS2 sales counted didn't they? Funny how people want to cut PS3 sales off. It's not hard to figure out why that is.
10 years from now people will google search best selling game consoles and PS3 will be over 105m. While Wii only has a couple million left in it at this rate. A man only has to look at what people say PS2 has sold. People say 155m at least. So a man has to think no one remembers that it was only 104m or so when PS3 launched. History will be kind to PS3 a man thinks. Have a "well said" bubble.
more like a fighting tiger not a pheonix
A Phoenix? This is what happens when you ingest propaganda. The PS3 was never dead or slain, or killed, or even ill. How can it rise up from ashes when it was never down among the ashes? All the years of media abuse had little to no effect on the userbase. The price did, but what does this all teach us? -That all the hateful media articles here @ N4G and around the web do absolutely nothing to affect sales of a console, but instead only serve as a digital circle jerk for nerds and fanboys.
