Rumor: Final Fantasy Versus XIII coming to PS3 and PS4

Final Fantasy Versus XIII, oft-rumored to have made the jump from PlayStation 3 to PlayStation 4 (and with a Final Fantasy XV name change, at that), will be available on both platforms, according to a Gameblog.fr source “close to Square Enix.”

Sony has payed Square Enix an undisclosed amount of money as the project hit a snag.
sony's support has kept the project on track and made it exclusive for PS 3&4
it' might be only a timed exclusive, but fans of the series remember the series Playstation heritage.

i'm looking forward to see the next installment with 8gb i'm guessing the ps4 version will become quite the looker and hopefully a lot more open

Unlike with Final Fantasy 13 the PS4 will also use 50 GB blu ray discs & not be compromised by DVD9. So 'content' wise the games will be about the same the only difference will be the graphical fidelity.

This would actually make sense for both Sony and Square enix. SE gets the $$$ from the huge install base the ps3 has and $ony gets a huge launch title for the Ps4.

Uncharted and Gears sells 5+ million
GT sells more than forza
HR out sold Alan wake
Fable tops out at 2-3 million
LBP tops out at 4 million
Killzone rakes in 2-3 million
Infamous sells 2-3 million
God of War stands at 4 million
Resistance and Motorstorm franchize have sold 8 million units respectively
and PGR sold like 2-3 million units each.

Who in their right mind would think a game would sell the exact amount of an install base of a console? What kind of world are you living in? Since the ps3 is at around 80mil install base it would make sense for SE to release Versus XIII on the ps3 as well on the PS4. Honestly, does anybody really care about Versus anymore? Seriously - history has taught that games with way too long development times are often disappointing, if not straight up bad. Too Human, Duke Nukem Forever, and even Gran Turismo 5 failed to produce a experience that justifies the obscene amount of time that it took between announcement and going on sale.

People are still basing their excitement on a six year old trailer that, when regarded alongside today's games, looms neither as groundbreaking nor as exciting as it did when it was first released. Add in the recent FF games (which weren't awful, but definitely are not as well thought of as games from the glory days of the franchise amongst fans), and really there isn't any reason for anticipation anymore. If it ends up coming out one day, I'll probably check it out, but I stopped looking forward to it a long time ago.

I'm sure the game had come a fair bit in development when Sony told SE about the PS4 and that they wanted a game for it. This probably led to SE to scrap all progress so far to start from scratch developing for the PS4 (an explanation to why it's been in development for so long). Expect a game with the same concept but something you haven't seen before made primarily for the PS4.

That's what I think anyway.

If it is coming to the PS4 then it will be a rental at best. I'm not buying a game after it was delayed for so long just to be put on another console. Then again, you still wouldn't hear about it again until they announce it again for the PS5.

I now wonder if the 'silence' on this game from Nomura & Squarenix may be coming from an agreement with Sony now that it is rumored they may be publishing the game. It would make sense that Nomura just recently said that news on FFvs13 is delicate & that a date for a re-reveal is set (possibly E).

No matter what system it may be the game will do great. Every numbered Final Fantasy game on a Playstation console has done over 5 million sales alone. Heck even a polarizing game like Final Fantasy 13 has done close to that number.

I believe this game is an agreement between Sony & Squarenix to let Final Fantasy 13 be a multiplatform game. Every Playstation console has had a Final Fantasy game debut exclusively on their system.

Final Fantasy 7 - PS 1
Final Fantasy 10 - PS 2

Final Fantasy 13 was supposedly the exclusive game for the PS3 but since Squarenix & Microsoft struck a contract for the game, just like with Grand Theft Auto, Sony wanted insurance that an exclusive game would come their way. So having it on the PS3 & PS4 would subsidize the cost for developing the game would be my guess.

Again we'll see what will happen at E3 where hopefully all the answers about this game will be revealed.

It will not be on Xbox. Nomura has stated this multiple times already. I wouldn't keep twiddling thumbs for it.

Besides, it doesn't need to be on anything else. It will sell plenty on PS3/4 or both.

After the personal disappointment the last Final Fantasy and the lack of any real info on vs. I honestly stopped caring i think they need to scrap this game and come fresh or atleast change the name and look of the main character.
