Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen HD Texture Pack Comparison

Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen comes with a second disc, and on that disc is not only a complete Japanese voice-over track, but there is also an HD Texture pack. The HD Texture pack does a good job in improving a lot of the bland, blurry and quite washed out textures from the original game, and helps breathe life back into this new expansions.

For a side-by-side comparison of the game with, and without the texture pack, check out the video below:

Oh wow, I hadn't heard about this. Is the Texture Pack only for the 360 version? Are the textures pre loaded on the PS3 disc (as opposed to needing a second disc for them)? Either way, I cannot wait for this game!

Me either. And it looks great. I have wondered why more games havnt done this since rage did. Yeah, rage had some pop ins but I prefer the gloriois textured with a 1 sec pop in over washed out.

drosera14014d ago

What are you talking about? RAGE had awful textures close-up, certainly not the "gloriois textured" you talk about.

drosera14014d ago

Have you never owned a PS3 until now? Surely you know that a Blu-Ray holds 50GB of data, meaning that NO game requires a second disk. Sorry, but the comments on this site are incredibly stupid.

Yeah, I've owned one for about 5 or so years and you know what?... The Blu-Ray disc, as a storage medium, has rarely been utilized by third-party developers. There are a lot of great looking first-party titles out there (I remember being particularly impressed with the texture quality in Killzone 2 and Uncharted 2 when they launched) but aside from Tomb Raider and maybe Battlefield 3's single-player campaign (yes there are others smattered here and there also), most developers don't seem to be taking the time to utilize the disc space, due to development constraints.

The question in my mind was more-so whether or not PS3 owners will have to install the textures (like we install everything else) by choice, if it's mandatory, or if they're coming pre loaded with no "installation" necessary.

Anyway, it comes out today and I'll be enjoying it in a matter of hours and all will be answered. =)

You have yourself a good day and stop by more often.

Man...someone's got poopy diapers today, don't they?

Some things show the new texture pack better than others. That said, I had no problem with the game in its original form, it's brilliant. This HD Texture Pack? Icing on the cake I suppose.

deadfrag4014d ago

The title is all wrong; the content hd textures are the same has in the original release but now to have the game looking like the original version people need to install the textures that come all on this HD pack on the second disc!!What this means is that if you pop just the first disc withouth installing the hd textures the game will look worst than the first version already released of the game! The content HD texture that come on the second disc of DD Arisen will make the game look like the the original release, this also means that people that dont have an HDD will play this version of the game looking worst than the original release since they cant install the complete hd textures.I have the two versions and playing DD Arisen without the hd content install looks worst than the original Dragon dogma..looks crap.

This is just like Rage on xbox then...and battlefield 3 if I remember right. I don't care though. It was one of my fav games of 2012 so I can't wait. Ijust started dark souls though so it may be a bit...lol.

Bimkoblerutso4012d ago

I was gonna say, that looked MUCH worse than I remember. It's like PSone era textures if you don't install, apparently. Looks real nice installed though.

isarai4014d ago

The one on the right really just looks like standard Dragon's Dogma(original)

Pintheshadows4014d ago

Just hearing that wonderful music again brings back wonderful memories of this criminally under rated game.

Grandia, Klonoa, and Parappa... NICE!

MrBaskerville155d ago (Edited 155d ago )

Grandia is especially nice, as I don't think it's available on psn atm. Wonder if it's a psx port or the Switch version.

If they didn't despise ps2, they could have added Grandia 2-3 as well.

shinoff2183154d ago

It's not a despise. Far as I've read their working on better emulation. It'll come.

GRANDIAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA. Fckn love that game

StormSnooper154d ago

Is it good? I never played that.

crazyCoconuts155d ago

Been thinking of getting Teardown on Steam for Steam Deck play. Heard a lot of great reviews for it.

MrBeatdown154d ago

Played the first half hour last night. All I did was wreck a building but what a blast.

Elda155d ago

Nothing of interest for me. My sub is up in 2 weeks & I'll go with Essentials only for cloud saves & online. Having Extra or Premium is a waste for me seeing most games that land on the service are old that I've played already or old games I never had any interest in playing.

crazyCoconuts155d ago

Respect your opinion, just pointing out that Teardown is a Day One Extra release for PS, not an old game in this case. Gotham Knights last month was a year old.

Elda155d ago

I have no interest in Teardown. I bought & played Gotham Knights when it was first released in October 2022. Every month I'm always buying the latest AAA or AA games when they first release to play on my PS5, the very reason why Extra & Premium is a waste of money for me.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Alternatives – 7 Top Games Like Baldur’s Gate 3

Baldur’s Gate is a name synonymous with party-based fantasy RPG games. There’s still a stretch of time until the third instalment finally leaves early access. While you’re waiting for the gates to open and welcome you to Forgotten Realms, you might be looking for similar games to ease the wait.

anast280d ago

Some good games on that list.

FalcorMononoke280d ago (Edited 280d ago )

In my personal opinion, Divinity Original Sin 2 is better than any of the Baldur's Gate games.

Becuzisaid279d ago

Are you including BG3 in that comparison? Or just the first 2? The first 2 are tough to get into now, and I never liked the ad&d rules. The 5e rules are much easier to grasp. But BG3 seems to be just DOS2 but times 10. Haven't played it in early access at all, just going by what I see online.

Nittdarko279d ago

hilarious because the game that is most like BG3 and a game every DND fan should try is Solasta and its not even on this list
