With the launch of the PS3 in one month GamingNexus has posted some tongue-in-cheek predictions about the launch of the console.
I guess i'll check it out.
Of all the points given, i defintely have to agree with number 10 concerning the online aspect of the ps3. Sony has one last surprise left up its sleeves related to their online service and I think it might be access to the vast Sony music and video library. There are still more than a few gaps left in the Sony online strategy (will there be anything like what Microsoft's achievements, gamertag, and gamer points) one of the big advantages that Sony has is a ginormous library of content that they could easily make available online. If they could somehow allow gamers to download movies on demand or download video and music clips from their online service this could be a huge advantage over Xbox Live as Microsoft is dependant on other companies to provide them with downloadable content.
Please, no achievements, points, etc... Leave those for the kids who spend 4 hours a day on XBL. Crap like that turns off casual online gamers and may even push them away. It's a bit juvenile and screams "Lookit me! I'm special".
The fact that it's free will rate high on the forgiveness meter. That's why I have no problems with the PS2 online service. I have had no problems getting on-line with all 3 SOCOMs, Splinter Cell, and Metal Gear Solid 3 Subsistence - and best of all, they were all FREE! I like the 360, it's just that I can't stand that I pay money for it and I still have connection issues that I don't with the free online Sony servers.
Mostly Sony fans only mention SOCOM. Connection errors with XBL? That's strange I really have them NEVER So you: a. don't have a 360 at all and it's Sony fanboy talk or b. there is something wrong with a crappy internet connection and not with XBL
Haha, I played on XboxLive for a good 2 years and I have never had any problems other than a few laggy games here and there. My cousin is like in the top 10 players in the world for Socom...but I beat him 50-0 head to head in Halo 2...(Just a random fun fact, no need to flame) And why is everybody always bothered by the price of xbox live??? It's only like $30-$40 a YEAR!!! Your willing to put up almost $700 on one day, yet you guys have a problem with $50 a year???
For myself, at least, the problem isn't how MUCH it costs, but the fact that it costs anything in the first place. I feel that online play is something that should be provided at no extra cost, especially since it's not what I buy games for (for example, when I buy a game, I don't look to see if it has an online mode, and could care less if it did), and if one console can do it for free, that's evidence that it can be done. As the article says, there will be forgiveness that it doesn't match the breadth and consistency of Live, but I'm sure it'll get the job done. Others can go ahead and pay $40 or so for their "premium" online play. It's mostly a matter of principle; same as Sony possibly charging for demos. I don't care if they only charge $0.50 per, it's still a charge for something that ought to be free.
Wow, you beat your cousin 50-0 in Halo even though he's a "top 10 SOCOM" player. Well, everyone knows that the top 50 are all rank ups that dont actually play so your cousin is probably garbage anyway. Also, you can't compare a TPS with a FPS since they are two completely different games. Mart, you also heard me mention other games like Splinter Cell and MGS3S that I love to play online with my PS2. Just because you never have connection issues, that means that no one that uses XBL has them??? If I had a crappy connection then why don't I have the same issues with my PS2? Admittedly, the only game that I have problems with is Call of Duty 2, but that's the only one that I like to play online other than GRAW. So I don't know if it's the game, but I constantly have issues that I shouldn't have. Anyway, it's obvious that people have their own preferences. I just wish you fanboys would just leave people alone that want a PS3 and are excited to get one. I visit the 360 site often, and I don't see nearly the amount of flame posts by PS3 fanboys there. There's something about 360 fanboys that must breed insecurity or something.
The maintenance cost of upkeeping XBL are there, and MS isnt gracious enough to pay them, I guess MS has chosen the users to shoulder the cost. I'd rather not pay for anything but I wouldnt mind paying for something. I do believe that there should be a cost but not 50$, i think 9.99 is way more than enough per user. Sony is providing something for free because its businesses strategy is different, it's perhaps requiring developers to pay a lease into Sony Online so atleast sony can give centralized services and maintain their service. sony wont make much of a dime from this, What Sony needs to do is expand this for its users this time around and make it a robust online system.. but when that happens who will shoulder the cost? In the long MS has it good because the user keeps shouldering the cost so no matter what XBL can keep growing and it becomes a profit to MS
I would just feel like I was getting used if I went with Live. Out of habit and preference, I don't play online that much. Even with my ps2, I rarely, and I mean RARELY ever go online. I just wouldn't want to pay that much for the 10 or so times I decided to hop on. Which is why I admit it's purely preference. I know many people that adore and enjoy getting online; who feel that it extends the value of the game for them. As I'm not such a person, I am by default not bothered by Sony's strategy.
But Sony is making it free and that works for all of us!! Yayeah!
Nice. That was a good article with nice observations. It is refreshing to get something like this instead of the crap that has been posted recently. I don't really have any "predictions" but I am excited for the release to see what this baby is all about first hand. Yeah buddy!
that was a really good read and real interesting. I totally agree with point 10. It can be done, would be awesome if it was done, and would class itself as a good online system. Sonys been quite quiet about the online service so maybe they do have something up their sleeve. That would be awesome
I think number six is the only one certain to happen.
3. Hardware horror stories will be rampant True and it'll be a worse case for Sony even if less break down then the 360 had @ launch. Because they can only already get so few out with 500k it'll be a mess 4. flOw isn't going to be the PS3's Geometry Wars That's where it was looking familiar from! Geometry Wars is king though 5. Resistance: Fall of Man is going to do well but not as well as Call of Duty 2 did for the 360 launch Not only that, any shooter this Christmas get's pwned by Gears of War 100% no dicussion possible 6. Crab monster jokes will populate nearly every single Genji II review It has been going on for months and it'll continue in the future. Especially with the Sony fanboys rage that the 360 was soooo large Now see the PS3 man it's MASSIVE 8. The motion sensing component of the controller is going to go over better than expected but it won’t go over as well as the Wii Yup. It a semi-solution. And I am still saying the rumble is a dissatisfier. If it's there you won't say you really need it, but if it's not there you instantly will miss it. Period And besides that, the 360 controller is just better ergonomical and plays like a dream 9. Sony's new online service is going to be better than people expect but still fall short of Xbox Live. People will forgive this as it is free Yes and no. If you're a cheap guy that want a less experience I guess PS3 online service is allright. For kids that will be acceptable. If you want a mature Live service, with no hidden costs (GT4 HD ripp off and there will be others and many paid stuff, like even demo's!) and not 30 different connectionlogins for your games, XBL is the only solution out there I bet. Real gamers will not forgive the shortcomings of a non unified online system. 10. Sony has one last surprise left up its sleeves related to their online service and I think it might be access to the vast Sony music and video library. That's a true point. But what are you buying. A game console with @ some point some mediacenter possibilities or the other way around?
... There are other games coming out (all FPS mind), which could give it a good run for its 'shooter crown'. Both Rainbow6 and COD3 are set to be realeased around the time of Gears, and will definately appeal to other gamers. I think you put too many eggs in the 'Gears Basket', and I wouldnt be suprised if both Rainbow and Duty sell pretty big too. Resistance will probably sell quite high, but the amount of PS3s out there wont be as high as other consoles as there wont be many avaliable
I like those other games and I will be picking up Rainbow6...I dont think i'll pick up COD3 cuz I'm kinda sick of war games...maybe a rental...but Gears of War wont have any tough competition for a long time. Gears of War is a system seller...not the others u mentioned. I know a few people that waited to get a 360 for that game. Plain and simple, the previews are starting to come in(EGM, IGN...) and they all say Gears is THEE game. There is nothing out there on any console that looks as good as Gears...acording to EGM, the gameplay is addicting and fun. And this quote right here...."Gears may very wll be the bloodiest game ever made..." -EGM. This alone will sell to all those sick bastards!!! Now I would really like to know what games on a PS3 can compare to this game GRAPHICALLY...cuz I really dont see Resistance and Motorstorm which looks good, comparing to Gears graphically. Just face it...Ps3 will have good games...but nothing can touch GOW. GOW will be the best game period for a long time on all consoles.
I love gears, has my preorder down ages ago! But all im saying is that there are other shooters coming out which are set to be great!
The reason I'm getting the $600 version in the first place is because of its media-center abilities. It's about half-and-half with me. I'm just as excited about streaming content from my computer to the tv, or watching hi-def movies as I am about playing games. I've always said, if you're JUST playing games, the higher end model is a bit pointless. And as for extra costs, don't you have to pay for cheat codes and tutorials in certain games? I'm not justifying GT:HD's structure, mind you, but it's the ONLY game that's been announced as such. And I could have sworn that they said that GT5 would be the normal, everything's included kind of game. As such, I can only assume that GT:HD is some sort of over-done demo, where you get it just to see what it'll look like and buy the five or so cars you care about. If you're going to want everything, just wait for GT5.
I have read somewhere that actual game will sell for $7.99 59.99-7.99=52 $52 left to buy cars and tracks. I don't think thats bad if you can buy your favorite tracks and cars and most likely still have some money left.
Seriously, why are you even on the PS3 forums? Are you gonna buy one? :| Are you trying to spare millions from the pain of "wasting" $600 on "niche" technology? :/ Did Sony send thugs to beat up your family? :X Listen well my friend. If the PS3's features don't tweak your wizard back (read: impress you), then it's not FOR you. If you don't have a HiDef TV, or don't use a wireless router, and don't have 60GB of tunes eating up valuable porn space on your PC, then the PS3 is not YOUR system. So give it up. The people who want one are going to freaking get one, and nothing YOU say, will ever convince them otherwise. You like the 360? Good. Awesome. Brilliant! So brilliant infact, that you should go to the gifted school (read: 360 forum) and leave all us dumb suckers in SpEd class to blow our extra $600 on the world's fanciest Walkman.
HaHa, I just love it when people get all mad and just reply in anger....I love this site :)
But seriously. It's the same thing on all the forums. They're all haters. They have absolutely no vested interest in the actual economics of the "war". Most of them only own 1 system and treat it like it's their girlfriend, hardly any actually own any stock, but yet they troll around on the forums like they personally are going to fire the magic bullet that destroys the other companies. Most of them don't even know that the "cool/lame" ratings are for the journalistic (if that's a word) value of the article itself. BAH!
How did this turn into a GOW debate? Is that all you 360 fanboys can come up with? GOW graphics? 1.) GOW has a game that eclipse it! UT2007! Made by the same company, same or better graphically A LOT more going on the screen at once and a PROVEN online experience! 2.) everytime someone brings up GOW they talk about graphics!! I don't have any doubts that GOW will be a great game but, I am reluctant to give it the BEST GAME OF THE YEAR award based off hype. 3.) it takes a lot more than just pretty graphics to make a game legendary! It also needs story, gameplay and that feeling you get when you play an awsome AAA! Remember that feeling you got when you first played MGS? Or how about HALO (the first one)? Or what about Half life 2? Don't forget FF7? Games like RE4, DMC, Powerstone, Soul Calibur, the first Tomb Raider! These are the type of games that exceeded the hype and submergered gamers fully into the gaming world! They had that special "IT" feeling that made you get involed in the game to where it felt like more than just a game! Can GOW being that type of feeling to gamers? Only time will tell but the fact that the game has great graphics and blood galore doesn't equal a legendary game! Let's just reserve judgement until the game has proved it can live up to, or even exceed the hype! Now to the news at hand! I think this article points to some great points and is a great read! Sonys decision to use linux yellow dog 5.0 is major for me and I'm sure Sony is waiting to release the full information on its online plan and I'm very optimistic about it. Remember Sony has a major showing for the PS3 in the U.S. Later this month so I'm waiting to see what Sony unveils then
<THE TRUTH: > 2.) everytime someone brings up GOW they talk about graphics!! I don't have any doubts that GOW will be a great game but, I am reluctant to give it the BEST GAME OF THE YEAR award based off hype.</THE TRUTH> Guess what? The best game of the year was revealed in mars -06 allready. A magazine has set Oblivion to be the game of the year. I must say, put an award like that with only a quarter of a year???? I guess this GeOW will also be the game of the year? Just a point of intrest. Games left me with a excitement above normal is: Civilization(PC) and FFX+FFVII. Those made me lose contact with the real world. I hope to add WKS to that list.
