Nintendo has declared that 2013 will be the "year of the 3DS". The firm's UK marketing director Shelly Pearce said that this year's software lineup is the system's strongest yet.
So you release your next gen console a few months back and you decide to make it all about your handheld instead of focusing on supporting your new console....come on
i think nintendo was under the impression that they would scoop up the wii fanbase with the wii u, and since things are slower than expected, they are shifting all the focus on the real money maker for them, and rightfully so. but they need to do something about the wii u, fast.
The Wii, and NDS is selling. Nintendo wants to make sure that the 3DS could ''coast'' throughout this year (2013), so they may focus entirely on the Wii U. Sales aren't great (Wii U), though with everything thing else putting up decent unit sales numbers (Wii, NDS, 3DS), Nintendo isn't as panicked about the situation as must people are.
Dammit, that makes 2014 year of wii u. it better be as good as this year for 3ds
