Wii U Virtual Console coming Tuesday says Nintendo of America

Nintendo of America has announced via their Wii U Facebook page that the Wii U Virtual Console will be making its debut on Tuesday 23rd (Virtual Console, Wii U)

I was thinking we wouldn't see the System Update until Wednesday or Thursday, with the VC following on Thursday or Friday, so this is AWESOME news!

i though iwata said that virtual console will comm a day after update. or am i mistaken
AKR  +   828d ago
You're correct. That's why I said I was expecting the System Update to come on Wednesday (with the VC launching Thursday) or Thursday (with the VC launching Friday)

Dgander  +   828d ago
Most likely.....i just hope they make it avaliable at midnight so i can let it update, install and shut down while im asleep.

This is one of the reasons I want a Wii U (regardless of my stance towards the console) is to get my retro fix on but, not having games tied to your account really puts me off from getting one. Still undecided ;)
deafdani  +   828d ago
The games are tied to the account. The problem here is that, as of now, the account is permanently tied to the system, which is beyond stupid.

I hope Nintendo unties the account from the hardware sometime in the future, rather sooner than later. Miiverse is coming to 3DS, PC and smartphones, so here's hoping.

That would be nice. But I think they can pull your purchase and if your system breaks down they will give you credit to re buy games. There was a report about a person whose system broke down and Nintendo gave him back credit to re buy the games he purchased already. But there stance is prob if you trade your system in your loss.

This was one of my main bugaboos with the Wii U, I currently don't own one but if they fix this MAYBE i'll reconsider

@Realplaya: I know, man, I read a couple articles about people getting eShop credit from Nintendo so they could re-purchase their stuff on new Wii U units.

Actually, I'm in the process of doing exactly that, myself. My Wii U got stolen a couple weeks ago, and I knew my digital stuff was gone for good with the console, so I contacted Nintendo's customer service and they told me they would help me somehow as soon as I get a replacement unit. They weren't more specific than that, but I hope they give me eShop credit.

My new Wii U will arrive tomorrow or the day after that (purchased it on Amazon), so I'll find out soon enough.

Still, even if Nintendo gives me a full refund for my digital games so I can repurchase it all... my Nintendo ID account will remain lost, because they can't unlink it from my stolen machine... so I will have to make a new account.

Now I can buy a Wii U. I never got a wii though tempted but with remote gamepad play for the VC I'm sold.

looks good

Can't wait. I'm excited to see the pace of releases. Hopefully it won't be one game a week like the 3DS, but then again, it's Nintendo...

I wish this anouncement included uk/europe as well as i would buy super mario world snes day 1

Rebuy these games again for the one billionth time or get the roms for free. But that's illegal, Waaah! Why are you in Jail? Murder. Why are you in Jail? Robbed a bank. Why are you in Jail? I was the 18 millionth person to download a rom online. Oh wow!

Why are you in jail? I was the 15 millionth person to rob a bank.

just because other people did it doesn't mean it's any less illegal. fyi I'm not against downloading roms i just hate it when people use the 'but everyone else does it!' excuse like a 5 year old child

Yeah, I have never read a single piece of news about someone going to jail for downloading and playing roms of old NES /SNES games... care to show me one?

It's ilegal, yup, but there's virtually no consequences for doing that. Feel free to illegally download all the roms you want if you like, but I love playing some classic Nintendo games on the gamepad, or with the Wii remote, myself. :)

All I want from the virtual console is Zelda link to the past
Smashbro29  +   828d ago
The only reason I like VC is because the prices on the cartridges go down.
Jek_Porkins  +   828d ago
Sweet! I wish this had been on the Wii U since launch though, cant help but think part of the problem with the Wii U is lack of quality titles post launch and things like no Virtual Console.
TenkoTAiLS  +   828d ago
They better put Donkey Kong Country back up on the VC. Really pissed me off that they removed it just as i brought a top up card for the sole purpose of buying those three games >.<

Looking forward to this. I move away from Nintendo with the ds and wii but im loving the Wiiu and the 3ds even more. come e3 im expecting even more from Nintendo with Mario kartu Zelda U and super smash bros.
