5 Reasons Bioshock: Infinite is Not My Game of the Year

Now, most of you reading this came here to see what kind of nonsensical reasoning this hack of a writer could possibly have to criticize Ken Levine’s current masterpiece, Bioshock: Infinite. Many of you came here to defend this game, and many more are already considering it for their Game of the Year. Well, let me start off by saying this: Bioshock: Infinite is indeed a great video game and I will by no means dabble into slanderous affairs. But that is not what this article is about. (BioShock: Infinite, PC, PS3, Xbox 360)

The beginning of the game is GOTY-tier. After the first two-three hours it is "great", but not GOTY.

I paid $60 on Steam for it,and I'm not a blind hater. You Bioshock Infinite dick riders need to keep it real. It is not GOTY unless the rest of the year's releases are garbage.
grailly  +   459d ago
yeah, it's not GOTY material except for the beginning, imo. Still it gets points for the ending, I didn't like it at first, but it motivated so much discussion with my friends that it kinda redeemed itself.

I just dropped by to say that this article is STUPID! it's only just April and...STUPID! yeah...that pretty much it!
PS4isKing_82  +   460d ago
Ummm it's only April and there's still a lot of year left to be making an article like this. The author must be a lame cod fan.

I want to see 5 reasons why ppl are compelled to make lists all the time. So, newsflash...bioshock isn't every single human beings favorite game ever!
Apocalypso  +   460d ago
True, but it seems people love to make lists that rag on popular and well received games just to get hits on their sites.

He brings up some valid points, but it's mostly just nitpicking at an overall terrific game.

Does it derserve GOTY? Stupid question, there's lots of the year left, wait til all the contenders are in to start making that call.

As much as I enjoyed Bioshock Infinite, I can not deny I was also disappointed.

Why was I able to carry only two weapons? Why couldn't I switch to other Vigors in real-time? Why did the "health" system become regenerative (the shield)? Why was there a lack of variety amongst the enemies? Why was barely anyone using Vigors against me?

These are just a few of my gripes.
AkatsukiPain  +   460d ago
That was exactly my gripes with the game and can we also add that the game was not difficult at all & the enemy ai was nothing special. It was a good game but I think it got its nothing that blows our mind. The first bioshock was better because the big daddy fights made u think ahead before u fought. I didnt feel that in infinite. Good story though & atmosphere but thats pretty much all I liked about it.
JasonXS12  +   460d ago
Not sure about console but the buttons 1-8 was quicktime vigor switching for us. Makes the game a lot faster paced.
kneon  +   460d ago
On console you just hold down a button to pop up a vigor selection wheel. I had no problem with that approach, but then I seldom used vigors.
Inception  +   460d ago
I'm with you mate. Add this too: why they removed puzzle-hacking machine, U-invent, or taking photographs to analyze enemies? And where's the final boss?

The story is good but the gameplay became average FPS with shooting wave after wave of mindless enemies.

I don't think it's gonna win GOTY to be honest, we still have yet to some some huge games in 2013

Last of us by ND
GTA5 by RS

One of these 2 will win GOTY

Also to all the media outlets, how could you over look the fact that some of the boss battles in Bioshock infinite were very unbalanced, the ghost boss and the last boss on normal are crazy hard

And it's not that I don't like and games but when it unfairly hard that's when it's not as much fun. Maybe they did that so more people would spend more time with game and makes the game single player longer

The world amazing
Combat a lo of fun

Boss battles not fun
And the hook is a way over rated and over used feature

The game shows you ts hands within first 2 HRS than nothing changes after that combat wise

But the story and the twist are very good, got everyone who hasn't played it the ending along is worth the play through
kneon  +   460d ago
There wasn't much of a twist if you were paying attention. I figured out the main gist of the story in the first 10 minutes, and most of the rest becomes fairly obvious in the first couple hours.
pop-voxuli  +   460d ago
You may have 5 why it ain't, but we got about 50 as to why it IS.
TheSaint  +   460d ago
There are so many GoTY's these days that it's become meaningless.

Bill gates needs to fund A VGA that is as big as the oscars. as long as it isn't biased towards MS.

FIrstly let me say that I enjoyed the world and I really enjoyed the combat. I think the gun mechanics accompanied with vigors were extremely fun

BUT at the same time, they had this very impressive, colourful and detailed world, unfortunately the developers didn't really take REAL advantage of this, because once the bullets start flying, the world takes a backseat. Unlike the first 30 minutes or so or however long you explored the start of Columbia when you first arrived, that was awesome, unfortunately that doesnt last long.

Don't get me wrong, the game was AWESOME and a loved the combat, but I feel it could have been a even better game, had they included more sections where you could explore the world, and interact with NPCs.

I can understand why they didn't because first and foremost Bioshock Infinite is a FPS not a RPG, doesn't mean you have to stick to the formula of gun bullets flying 90% and 10% exploration and world interaction.

Overall I'd give the game a solid 9/10. Had there been a lot more areas to explore, interact with, including NPCs etc, it could have very easily got a 10/10

This is what gaming journalism has come down to. How sad.
knifefight  +   460d ago
I know. The first words out of my mouth when I read the headline were "Who ----ing cares?"
SegaSaturn669  +   460d ago
Bioshock was a good game with a compelling storyline.

The gameplay was fairly standard. I got stuck in a few areas due to a bug and I had to restart from my last checkpoint a couple times, so I'm a bit bitter about that. All in all, though, I thought Revengeance was a lot better.
supraking951  +   460d ago
Watch Dogs and GTA5 will just be typical open world games to mess around with.
Last of Us will most likely have amazing characters, story and graphics.
I think Bioshock INfinite will beat them all cause its more unique, its a fresh story, setting and characters are top notch and THAT ENDING. Columbia is more interesting than another open world city and end of days apocalypse world.
GOTY 2013 belongs to Bioshock Infinite unless Beyond: Two Souls steals it
SovereignSnaKe  +   460d ago
Well I'm keeping a Russian candle burning that it will be Metro Last Light. :)
