Beyond: Two Souls, To Control or Not To Control?

Gi - Trying to put into words what Quantic Dream is attempting to achieve with Beyond: Two Souls is even more difficult than attempting to decipher what the title is about. With the subject of the afterlife, the soul and the nature of living being posed to the audience. This game can push the medium of gaming and cinema further into a similar realm. Heavy Rain was a tremendous game and stands out in recent memory as a game that truly blurred the boundaries of gaming and film. Not only in terms of advancing technology in facial animations but also in storytelling. However, there were some critics in regards to the general (or lack there of) control scheme. So this leads to the impending debate. Does Beyond: Two Souls need to integrate more traditional style gameplay? (Beyond: Two Souls, PS3)

No. Heavy Rain was the great experience it was partly to its control scheme. Let Quantic Dream do what its good at. Making an experience unlike anything else on the market.

I think that Heavy Rain's control scheme was perfect for what it was trying to do. I can't imagine playing it any other way. It's one of the best experiences of this generation. I can't wait for Beyond: Two Souls. I hope they keep the same type of control scheme as Heavy Rain.

They're not keeping the same control scheme for this game. It controls pretty much like your normal game and the contextual controls, such as opening a door or using a button, have been simplified.

Firstly, in response to "Does Beyond: Two Souls need to integrate more traditional style gameplay?":

No. it doesn't. It was acclaimed for its gameplay, story, and the way it conveyed emotion. As long as Beyond has these elements in wealth, it will be another great experience.

Secondly, if the author had looked into the details, the latest gameplay, and the fact that Cage has said that he's doing away with QTE in Beyond for the most part, they'd know that IT IS more traditional than Heavy Rain ever was.

Do we really know how much control the player will have though? It's hard to follow a structured path if they allow the gamer to be free flowing. David Cage wants games with emotion and hard choices. To do that he needs to pull the strings and limit what the gamer is allowed to do. We still aren't at the point of learning A.I. That is why games like Mass Effect create an illusion that you are making all of these choices. Or even The Walking Dead. In reality there are only certain scenarios that can be played out. You are limited with the choices you make. Otherwise it would take years and years to make these games with really no end. This is why it's important for me to know the games length and how re-playable it is. I also want to know how much control we have during the game. Otherwise I may just wait for it to go on sale.
