Ed Boon: Injustice is the "First Step" Towards Tackling Other Genres

SPOnG: "Netherrealm Studios' Ed Boon has told SPOnG that he'd like his team to 'step out of its comfort zone' and explore new game genres.

In an interview due to be published next week, Boon added that DC Comics brawler Injustice: Gods Among Us represents the 'first step' in achieving a future where Netherrealm could create action adventure titles." (Injustice: Gods Among Us, NetherRealm Studios, PS3, Xbox 360)

shaolin monks was definitely a fun, easy going step in the right direction. we dont have to go from fighting games to something as drastic as JRPGS, stick to what you know and expand to other genres from their. a beat-em-up game or hack n slsh seems like a great transition.

I would like them to make a God of War-like game! They could do a great job and more competition in the genre would be great! Going from a 2D fighter to a 3D hack 'n slash seems like a natural enough transition to me.

They have done that before and it was awesome I don't want to see them stuck making only fighting games

I think that it would be good for the studio to take steps into uncharted territory because it would help show that they aren't just the "Mortal Kombat guys". They should try other ventures like action/adventure or horror. It can really boost their own library of titles and improve them for potential future projects.
