First hands-on A Link to the Past 2 gameplay surfaces – nearly ten minutes of video

"Information regarding the new Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past 2 has been releasing quickly since yesterday's Nintendo Direct exposed the game's existence. Today, we've found video of nearly ten minutes of gameplay from an online user, and we have to say it's looking rather spectacular." (3DS, Dev, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past 2)

This looks sick. I've been let down by most of the recent Zelda games, but this one looks like it is trying to improve the fundamentals instead of just adding in some stupid magical banana and slapping on the subtitle Legend of Zelda: The Banana Whistle of Fate.

Notice how you can get boosted up by the Red/Blue walls? Those sort of walls are nothing new. Almost every Zelda has them, but this is the first time in a long while that the series is thinking in true 3D terms. I also like the combat: it seems fast and challenging. Enemies actually pose a threat for once.

I would rather have an HD Remake. I'm not liking where this new one is seemingly going.

You'd rather have a shiny re-texture of an old game instead of a built-from-the-ground-up new game?

Wahhh...?

Ok. Approved. This could be great!
Also, note that it's in english. :)

I don't like that travel on walls as a drawing feature or the always going upwards in the level to show off the 3D aspect either.

Perhaps I am being too picky.

I don't like it either, but Nintendo is always about "doing something new" with old franchises.

The only problem with this is that LttP is near perfection. Some of the stuff I've seen in the gameplay takes away from the game, not adds to it (mainly the two things Merrill mentioned, and that the game loses a lot of it's charm going 3D).

Thankfully they weren't stupid enough to add the changes and make this a remake, and instead are making it a similar, but different game.

I prefer the 2D sprites (MUCH prefer), but I realize that's just an opinion. I'm sure I'll end up playing this, but I have ZERO illusions that this game will come close to LttP, not that it can't still be a great game.

Well, this level is a tower... I'm sure not every level will be traveling upwards. Then again, maybe every dungeon is a tower for some reason based on the story. Either way, I'm really looking forward to the game. I didn't care for the chalk wall travel thing at first, but the idea is kind of growing on me. It could make for some really devious puzzles to solve.

Honestly i don't really dig the graphics. ALttP imitating artstyle in 3D... doesn't really cut it for me. If i wanted a top-down view game, i'd rather have it be pixely and 2D.

The graphics are incredibly generic and ruins what link to the past was/is, either do a similair artstyle or dont do it at all. It just looks uninspired.

Really can not be compared.

That's what shocked me the most. I know people will say I'm a hater, but actually I enjoyed quite a few games on my 3DS (XL). The artistic design looks really boring compared with the first one. Why the hell are there some weird looking faces on the ground. Sure I get why they are important for the vertical gameplay, but why do they have to look this bad? The environments are lacking details, everything just looks "boring" when compared with other Zelda games. I really hope they picked a wrong quest for demonstration. I'm sure the game will be great, but I just expected something else when I first saw that it's going to be a sequel to one of the best Zelda games.

This looks excellent and actually has me interested in 3DS, hype this!

I really hate this stupid retro crap Nintendo has been doing for the past couple years. Don't give me a new game done in the style of a game from 15 years ago. I don't care how good ALTTP was, but making money off my nostalgia is not how you move a series forward.
