Oddworld developer: Next Gen Xbox needs to embrace self-publishing

This comes in the wake of Sony's little elaborated-upon but popular declaration that developers will be able to self-publish on PlayStation 4. "We literally haven't had any submission stuff yet for PS4 yet," Gilray commented. "We've got the kits, but we haven't done anything with it yet and we can't talk about that too much." But he feels Microsoft could learn from its rival's approach, even on PS3. "With the way the whole Sony thing works anyway, even going back to the PS3 side of things, you still have a submission and approval system.

The story is too old to be commented.

Well if the latest rumors are true, then you can just pay the $60 fee and publish using the Windows 8 app on the next Xbox, that would be huge for indie's and anyone else who wanted to get into making low budget games.

I see your comments all the time in rumor or rumor related articles about the nextbox and how one shouldn't follow rumors and how we should wait for concrete information, and how you don't understand why people do this...yet...

I clearly said "if the latest rumors are true", it's right there in my first bit I wrote, but it'd be foolish to think Microsoft wont have a plan to get as many games and developers on board as possible.

So I'm hopeful, optimistic and excited to hear what's going on.

If that is true. Sony Is going to be in major trouble when It comes to indies.

I wouldn't worry. I think Sony has it all planned out this gen. Just look at the things they're doing.

Also the oddworld devs have said they love the PS4 but have not even been in contact with Microsoft. That doesn't sound good at all.

Yeah Sony are going to be in serious trouble when Microsoft pretend they are all for Indies again and then fuck everybody over only after 3 years.
Well after all that Stranger's Wrath fucking around, JAW have every right to say that about Microsoft.

What was the last game released by the Oddworld dev? I can't think of it. And I think developers that want to make games for a console usually go to the company to get a dev kit. Console makers will go to bigger devs that they trust for input on the making of the machine. But when it comes to making the console itself I'm not sure who the person is at Just Add Water to talk to for engineering help.

I understand that small developers need things to be easier. But I'm not sure that MS not getting in touch with JAW means any kind of trouble for MS.

And it will embrace it.
