Can the Thief reboot survive on only next-gen platforms?

"When the upcoming reboot of the Thief series, simply titled Thief, was unveiled, it was announced only for the next generation of consoles, those being the PS4, the PC and whatever Microsoft will call their new Xbox. Not a single mention was made of any current-gen versions of the game.

This means that current generation consoles like the PS3, Xbox 360 and (let’s be brutally honest) the Wii U will likely not be getting the game, leaving each platform’s considerably large install base out in the cold come Thief’s release time." (PC, PS4, Thief, Xbox One)

I don't know what is the point when they are making the game on UE3 anyway.

its not about the engine, but how you use it.

whats with the dislikes? the samaritan demo looked next gen and that was on UE3 not even UE4. what matter is how detailed the textures are and how well place the lighting is, and that comes down to the ARTIST.

Disappointed its on ue3 but I will do anything to play this game.

Remember Star Wars 1313, and how everyone was nuts with how great it looked...

Yea UE3.

Might as well start somewhere.

if the core fans are still there, im pretty sure it would survive on any gen... not to mention the success of Dishonored and Deus Ex:HR goes to show how much demand the stealth market has.

As long as they try and market it as something that only next gen could run then I guess so.

I think alot of gamers are hoping for AI to be improved for next gen.

AI for bots in video games isn't waiting for the next big leap in hardware. It's all about how much time and talent is invested in programming the AI.
hkgamer  +   736d ago
which basically needs next gen right? I am guessing that the 512mb ram current gen has is too little to have such complex AI.

Probably depends on what games it's going up against when released! Right now this is all to early to tell, but even major franchises aren't selling the way publishers had hoped(TR, Hitman, Max Payne, etc)...

I think that the PC is going to push the most copies sold. A lot of people won't be buying new consoles soon, so the sales will start very slowly.

Also, i know it's not just the engine, but how you use it. If there's an improved engine, then why the hell not use it for next gen? That just seems way out there.

People with next gen consoles will only have a handful of games available on launch and if the reviews justifies this game they will buy Thief fan or not.

If Thief is made properly it will do very well in next gen consoles and hopefully revive the franchise. This game holds so much of my respect as a gamer that I find myself longing for its release more then next gen consoles themselves. The game keeps you on the edge of your seat as you guide yourself through shadows hoping not to make a peep or alert anything for it will surely be your demise. The amount of angst this game instills in you the gamer as you play is so powerful, the game should have came with a sedative.

I shall surely be a Taffer for lfe.
