"Paying tribute is often viewed as a noble gesture in the world of gaming, but only when it's done with the sincerest of motives, either to help a modern cause or to prompt a resurgence in a particular play style. When done transparently, it can come across as a hopeless gimmick, designed to distract or elevate a barebones system above its actual worth.
