Ouya Android Gaming Console Benchmarks Dissapoint Ahead of Release Date

AndroidGeeks:

With the Ouya release date scheduled for June, the Android-powered gaming console was expected to be capable of keeping up with other modern handsets. Unfortunately, the first benchmark scores are disappointing.

Ouya is the name of the highly anticipated Android console designed to bring entertainment on your HDTV. Personally I would have expected Ouya to be capable of impressing the public with a unique user interface and a series of exclusive game titles. Rumor has it that the above mentioned Android gaming console is supposed to support emulation of classing game titles, a huge reason to cheer for the fans of the games that were popular a couple of decades ago. (Android, Ouya)

Yeah it might be a bit on the weak side, but it's affordable enough for parents to get their kids a console without breaking the bank with the current-gen consoles.

This is just the first iteration of the Ouya, I can't remember where I read it (probably somewhere here on N4g) but I remember reading that Ouya would be released every year with upgrades, much like smartphones.

Basically, yes. It should be good for arcade and hardcore games for budget gamers alike.

If it supports MAME then that is reason enough to get it at that price.

"it's affordable enough for parents to get their kids a console without breaking the bank"

Until they make the mistake of leaving they're credit card number up.

And the whole yearly thing is a waste.

Damnit! Used "They're" instead of "their".

I don't think a $100 more for a 360 would brake the bank or $99 with subscription I know it adds up but still the entry is cheap. Also what kid would want an Ouya over a 360 or PS3 is beyond me. I know the games are cheap but they're not games like the ones you get with consoles.

Anyways just saying cheap prices isn't always the best way to go. Plus a new one every year would add up way more than a 360 or PS3.

Might as well get a ps3 though, because they're $199 and you don't need a subscription for online. : |

"but it's affordable enough for parents to get their kids a console without breaking the bank with the current-gen consoles."

So... why not get a PlayStation 2 or PSP for the same price (even less) then? If anyone actually thinks this thing is going to be viable on the long run, they're dead wrong. The support for it will die soon after release and only thing it'll have going for it will be emulation capability which is what PSP also excels at except for N64 emulation.

I'm getting one just because I finally want a console that does not lock down its media playback and dlna features. It will sit next to my 360 and ps3. So glad my TV has 4 HDMI ports :-)

As for other peoples comments about paying $100 to play Angry Birds...so, if you just wanted to buy a PS3 to play AB what's the cost? Honestly, Dead Trigger, Modern Combat 4, Dungeon Hunter 4, emulators, media playback, decent web browser...looks like good value for the price.

I thought if the Ouya can play The Ball well then I would become a true believer. Implying that if it is powerful enough to run Bioshock or Gears of Wars(like) games, the power would be adequate.

Instead I saw a first generation PS2 title looking game.

The butchery of the UE3 in this instance is remarkable:
