Thief Dev on Next Gen Console Games: “If It’s Not Fun, Then We’ve Failed”

Eidos Montreal producer Stephane Roy recently spoke to Videogamer about developers doing “bigger and better” things with next gen consoles, stating “We will have to be careful because it would be easy [for us to say], ‘it’s more powerful, let’s have more food on the plate’.”

Currently developing the next generation Thief, slated to release on PS4, PC and other next gen consoles, he stated that, “That said, I think now with this technical freedom – it’s not unlimited but we have much more freedom – I think now, the designers and artists will be able to really do what they have in mind.

The Embracer Group brings the Embrace of Death, once again.

staticall82d ago

Yeah, they should be renamed to Embarrassment Group at this point. Bought every studio they could lay their hands on just to fire people from them, close them or cancel their games.

ROCKY2882d ago

100 % The CEO is a PIG and it showcases how Embarrassment Group has always been a sham of a company
within the game industry !

Eonjay82d ago

Seems like the most turnover is being generated by companies making acquisitions and cuts.

Abnor_Mal82d ago

Ahhhh a man of culture, Futurama is the best.

thorstein82d ago

It's like they don't know their behinds from their elbows.

UPS just signed all their drivers to a huge contract.

In order to afford the contract, UPS is laying off management.

That's how all of this should work. Lay off management. That's how a business can be more "efficient."

God this hurts, I love Eidos Montreal. They make great games.

Si-Fly82d ago

They’ve not closed the studio.

VincentVanBro82d ago

I know, but they laid off 97 employees and canceled my most anticipated release from their studio.

Xenial82d ago

Shouldn't laugh because of the situation. But that did make me lol.

Psychonaut8582d ago

Bro f$&k Embracer. How do companies not even understand basic concepts like “don’t count your chickens before they hatch”? And now all these peoples lives are upended because of it.

KwietStorm_BLM82d ago

Fkn trash. They had no business buying up all those studios with house money. I been waiting so long for the next Deus Ex. All these large scale consolidations are bleeding out the industry one at a time.

CantThinkOfAUsername82d ago

They were banking on Saudi money. When the Saudi Government backed down everything fell apart.

Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal are expected to release 5 triple-A games by March 2028 | VGC

Lars Wingefors, the CEO of Crystal Dynamics and Eidos parent company Embracer, provided an update on the group’s pipeline of triple-A projects during a quarterly earnings presentation on Thursday.

He defined triple-A games as titles that have over 100 full-time developers at the peak of their development phase.

They must also have notable or significant marketing budgets and are expected to sell at least two million units.

And if development work is paid for by an external partner, Embracer must also have a notable economic upside.

I would presume a new Tomb Raider and Deus Ex game is on its way, and a Perfect Dark title, but I do wonder what the other two games might be. Legacy of Kain and one more Marvel game?

Flawlessmic431d ago

Can only hope a new legacy of kain game is coming!!

A new deus ex would be sick as well!!
