Platformers, Do You Still Play Them?

Gioteck asks, what happened to the Platformer genre?

The story is too old to be commented.

2D platformers, Hell yeah! Guacamelee and Rayman Origins are keeping my PS Vita very happy indeed. "3D platformers" not so much. "3D platformers" are really a misnomer, as they are more open world than platformer - Ratchet and Clank games are not "3D platformers". Oh and games like Modnation racers, LittleBigKarting etc. are not platformers at all. They're racing games. You're getting your genres mixed up.

If Rayman Origins is a 2D platformer, then Ratchet and Clank is a 3D platformer.

Crash, Spyro, Ratch and Clank, Jak and Daxter, Mario - these games have always been referred to as PLATFORMERS. I'm not sure you even know what a platformer is, based on what your comment...

I grew up on platformers, but the ones I miss the most are the 3D ones from the N64 era (Banjo Kazooie, Super Mario 64, Conker's Bad Fur Day, etc). They had this special sort of 'style' that is no longer seen in 3D platformers.
