The Witcher 3 will have a new dialogue system

The Witcher 3 is without doubt one of the most anticipated games of the next generation, and new information will appear over the weeks.

In LogiaGamer had the opportunity to interview the guys from CD Projekt RED to discuss the third and final part of the trilogy of Geralt. (PC, PS4, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Xbox One)

having not played Witcher 1 or 2, is Witcher 3 a continued story like Assasins Creed games follows Desmond?, or like Final Fantasy where, new number means new story? or more like Elder Scrolls where they just leap forward in time for each installment?

I just don't want to jump into a series, if I'm going to be missing a portion of the story

The Witcher is a continous storyline, but Projekt did mention, if memory serves, that they were also designing Witcher 3 so that new players could jump in and not feel lost.

However, since all three games do have an overarching story to a degree, you'll get the most of the third game if you've played the past two. If nothing else I'd highly recommend getting the second game as you can pick it up on the cheap.

If you're not going to play Witcher 1, at least do yourself the favor to play Witcher 2. It's one of the best RPG's of the last 10 years or so. You're missing out!

I'm sure they would have some kind of backstory that introduces you to the story and events. Like ME2 did when it released for PS3.

I never played or read the plot of the witcher 1, and 2 wasnt hard to get into. I would play witcher 2 though just because it is a fantastic game

You don't need to play Witcher 1. Just read the plot on wiki or something.

But definitely play Witcher 2. The storyline in the second entry is quite important to the overall plot.

thanks for all the replies, I think I'll wiki the 1st one and then put Witcher 2 on my backlog of games

play both if you can
W1 is a flawed masterpiece. 2 is more refined, and better polished but it is more linear with less content. I think of it like this: W1 is to W2 as is ME1 is to ME2. I know you will enjoy W2 a lot more if you PLAY the first one.

Of course, playing W1 will let you enjoy W2 more. Some characters return and a death of major character from W1 is quite shocking.

But the story in W1 is completely concluded in the same game. W2 is a combination of 2 major storylines, Assassins of Kings, and, Returning Memories.

Geralt is suffering from Amnesia in W1 but his past is hardly touched upon in it. But his memories become a central part of the plot in W2. By the end of the game, he's remembered pretty much all he needs to which becomes the premise of Witcher 3.

As for the assassins conspiracy, it also leads into the next game. But that's enough from me. Go play the game before you get spoiled :D

Needless to say, I'm intrigued. As much as I liked ME's simplified solution, it's only reasonable to expect changes like this for next-gen.

Can't wait to see what it'll be like, so far i love the dialogue on Witcher 2.
