The Detail That Goes Into This Ukiyo-e Heroes Woodblock Carving Is Astounding

Super PolyPixel - Starting off life as a kickstarter, Ukiyo-e Heroes is a ”parody art project, commenting on the ancient origins of modern Japanese game culture.” The two-man team, composed of Illustrator Jed Henry and Woodblock Printmaker David Bull, do an incredibly wonderful job of capturing the underutilized art form.

So just what is it like in this process? David Bull recently posted a short video showing off his refined skills in carving what probably took the most concentration: Samus’ long hair. As tedious as this all might look in the video, it still seems so peaceful and serene, which certainly lends credence to the tough art form.
